The Weapons are a real turn off to me.
-
Look at those glorious polygons. I like the weapons, I have enough plain old racers. not enough weapon games other than my kart racers
-
Oh man, on the one hand I think this looks great, but likewise the weapons are big turn off for me. I've got nothing against Kart racers, and indeed Sonic Transformed was one of my favourite games of the last couple of years, but I would have much preferred a 'pure' arcade racer that looked like this. My inner nerd does approve of the car that looks a bit like a Porsche 935 with the Martini Racing logos (aka Jazz from Transformers).
Speaking of Sega inspired racers... Still no sign of a release for the 90's Arcade Racer and we're well into 2016 now. Sigh.
-
The Racing Apex devs say weapons are optional, I guess it's just making the game more "modern". They got the colouring and lighting down to a tee, now they just need a Formula car... it looks like they have one in the car list, but it's a more chunky looking lower formula than F1.

I saw this game early last month and got really excited having thought how much the promotional artwork looked like old school Sega racers etc. But a few weeks later I saw a promo video and could see that the racers were using weapons.
I immediately lost all interest in the game and it's only come back in to my mind having just read this post.
The only positive I can draw from this is that it's a real comfort to know that, as others have mentioned the very same thing is that you're among like-minded people :)
You guys rule :)

Looks cool to me.
I don't mind the weaponry, I'll buy this when it goes on sale :)
-
It looks like fun to me. I'm not sure what racers you guys played back in the day, but road blasters decidedly had weapons and it wasn't poorer for it. Spy Hunter as well if you count overhead games. There were a lot of "gimmick" racers actually and I tended to enjoy those more. I mean not every game can be outrun or ridge racer.

Looking good, still dont like the guns though.

Road Blasters, Road Riot, Spy Hunter, Lucky and Ace (I think that was the name) all had shoosting while driving, all decent games.
-
pretty sure youre of thinking Lucky and Wild :applaud:

For the longest time, I had a hankering to get that game on my cab.
Light gun did not work that close, my positional guns were too big.
Someday I'm going to build a little positional gun out of cheap pots and a squirt gun just for shits and giggles.
-
I love the idea of arcade hacks made from odd bits and pieces of stuff people have lying around the house (even more so if done on a budget). It your squirt gun/pot/positional gun even does come to fruition get some pictures on here ASAP.

I've got some cheap wiimotes that I want to eventually convert into guns, but as with everything else, it's finding the time.
I still get constant emails in regards to troubleshooter 2.... people don't realize I haven't worked on that in a couple of years.
I want to try those dot matrix displays out pretty soon.
