Joystick: 4 way

From Wikipedia:
Bagman is a platform arcade game released by Valadon Automation in 1982. It was licensed to Stern for U.S. distribution the same year. In France, the game is titled Le Bagnard. Bagman was followed-up with Super Bagman in 1984.
Gameplay:
The objective of the game is to maneuver the bagman through various mine shafts, picking up money bags and placing them in a wheelbarrow at the surface of the mine. The player must avoid pursuing guards, moving ore carts, and descending elevators. The player may temporarily stun the guards by striking them with a pickaxe or by dropping money bags on them when they are below the player on the same ladder. The player may move between the three screens which make up the level via shafts and on the surface.
Bagman is played using one 4-way joystick and one action button. The joystick is also used to jump out of the ore cart. The Action Button is used to make the Bagman perform the following tasks:
Pick up and drop money bags
Pick up and drop pickaxe
Grab and release the ceiling beam to avoid the ore cart (this can be done while carrying a money bag)
Placing a money bag in the wheelbarrow
Pick up and drop the wheelbarrow
Points are scored for each horizontal step the player takes, for each money bag placed in the wheelbarrow, and for each guard stunned.
Competition ends Sunday, March 20th at midnight Pacific time.
Good luck!

Waki, welcome back :applaud:

Haha, thanks Yam. It's good to be back. Although i have a feeling that this game is going to be very frustrating. Let's see if anyone is able to complete the first level.

Haha, yeah. Waki, thanks for giving us a few week head start since your name is on the trophy already. :)

I am finding this game very frustrating, purely due to the controls. It's growing on me, though.
Waki, i feel like i've seen your avi on an arcade related website. Do you run one? Sorry for the dumb question if it's well known.

It's based on DonPachi so it's very possible that you have seen it on an arcade site before, but I don't run one. I stole the logo from https://lowrez.spreadshirt.de/dp-squadron-A18677078/customize/color/387

(http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=149895.0;attach=345274) Made it to level 2. If you think level 1 is hard, think again.
After completing the first level, you get a 'movie', Bagman is chased off the screen by a guard, then returns and it's payback time.

I won't try too hard to go any further. Right now I'm pretty fed up with the game.

Took me a long time to get to this point, but I'll keep going until I clear that first board.

This game always makes me think of my brother, who bitd always got a kick out of 'ayieyieyie' when the robber gets caught.

60,970. One bag short :banghead:
Worst name entry system ever. Takes longer to enter your name than it does to play the game.
-
Try as i might, i can't even match my current high score. I'm growing quite tired of this one. I can't say i've given up. But unlike the last few, i keep scrolling past this title, even though i know i SHOULD be playing it.

Haha- absolutely!
I always skipped this game because I never played it in the arcades or I might have but thought the difficulty didn't make me want to spend the quarter.
However- I am really enjoying the challenge of this game now on my ArcadeSD and as soon as I beat the first level - I may try Super Bagman!
Does anyone know exactly what the voice samples say?

From what I understand -
Bagman grabs the handhold : Ouuuui !
Bagman drops into cart : Et - hopla !

Is that French? Or just expletives?

Since the game was made by a french company, I'm assuming that they used french voices. So if it is real language and not some 'pseudo-speak', it would probably be French.

I just got mame installed again so I should be a part of this forum again. I was only here for a little while before I sold my arcade cab. Now I have a cheap stick and I am ready to jam.

Bagman is an old favorite of mine, even though I'm not any good at it. I've never even beaten the first level. This game has quite a few issues and I think it could have been a lot better. For one, there should have been at least 4 levels with the one that's in the game being the last one. That would have made the difficulty less bothersome.

Great job everyone.
I don't mind picking the next game (Again, haha) but here's my conundrum: I'm pretty new to having all of the arcade games at my disposal, and honestly my knowledge of them is limited. I am aware of plenty of games, but it seems we've already done the vast majority of them over the past 3 years.
So tell me what would be better, i leave it up to you: Pick one thats already been done? (most likely in year one, so that there's been some time between contests) OR just let the 2nd or 4th place winner pick?

Not expletives, just non-word idioms. "Ouii!" is like "Ouch!", "et hoopla", is like saying "alley-oop!"

My vote is for popsicle / JDFan picking the next one, as redoing a previous challenge might give someone an unfair advantage. Another option would be to use Badmouth's 'All killer, no filler'-lists to find a game.

Done and done. JDFan, it's all you.

OK - but you all will probably regret this
