Title: Problem with joystick up minimizing mame
Post by: tigernut on March 06, 2016, 03:55:34 pm
I have a recent problem with my controls (ipac, windows xp), when running Mame, for example. When a game is running and I push the player 1 joystick up, it seems to minimize the game (exits back to windows with the game running, but I can't see it on the task bar. It's really strange. I'm then able to use the shift feature of the ipac to exit (1player, 2player. Then 1player, player 1 joystick left).

Note any other movement of the player 1 joystick doesn't seem to affect operation (right, down, left).

It has worked fine, without any known changes, for a couple of months and just started doing this.

I ran the IPAC config tool and reset the interface to default (never made any changes to begin with) but that didn't get rid of the problem.

Any ideas where to look or has anyone run into this before?

Thanks,
Doug

If the joystick works correctly, perhaps something in the MAME settings has somehow changed. I would copy the mame.ini somewhere safe, delete it in the MAME folder, and then start MAME to check if the problem is still there.

Ding ding..... I'd definitely look here too. Press whatever key is mapped to the up on your joystick and see if it does the same thing.

Thanks everyone. Something so simple that I overlooked. My daughter had some friends playing and it looks like they must have accidentally gotten into the config during play and buggered up the Joystick UP mapping.

I got it working with your suggestions and setup my mappings again. This time I've backed up the files so this doesn't happen again.

Thank you for the quick replies. Was driving me crazy since I knew I hadn't changed anything!
