Title: The Good Chuff Thread
Post by: yotsuya on March 04, 2016, 07:38:33 pm
Ok, enough negatives - who's got good stuff going on???

At this moment, I just started Spring Break. Wooot! It also looks like my job duties are changing next year, and I am happy about that!

I'm looking forward to meeting you dorks!  I'm chuffed because I finally have a fridge in my garage which is stocked full of beer.  Oh and I'm chuffed because I've just moved into a new neighborhood and the other day I watched my neighbor across the road take delivery of a Mortal Kombat cab.  Little does he know who lurks across the road, heh heh, looks like a nice fellow too.  I helped the delivery guy with it over the steps, it was farkin heavy!

Good stuff...  Ok then.  Something momentous in my life that many of you won't understand and the few that understand the concept probably won't realize how important it is to me.  I will be squiring to someone in a couple weeks.  Sir Cosimo within the SCA - he is one of a singing quartet called the Whiskey Bards.  They're awesome, look em up on YouTube.

Feel free, man.  I'm all for some good natured smack-talk!  I've been in that group for 30 years. Believe me, you can't find something to say I haven't heard before.

My chuff was last week.. spent the week in Cabo with my girlfriend, family, and friends.  It was a "work" trip, but the most work I did was lifting several beers to my lips (a few too many).  We took 600 customers, employees, and spouses.

On Thursday I sent the GF to the spa for a few hours and sat in bed ordering a new projector for my theater room that I am renovating (old projector is for sale, with screen if anyone is interested).  Then I got home and the weather was unbelievable for Montana in March (71 on Sat, 74 on Sunday).  I demo'd the fireplace hearth and trim in the theater room and started rebuilding it.  Got a lot done.

It wasn't all good, there were some issues with the ex wife, but I won't harsh the chuff.  Instead, here is a pic of me and the gf on the beach Friday morning.  (professional photographers were running around the resort so we got a bunch of really good pics).

lol, she just dyed it before we left.. went a little more orange in the red than she wanted, but it ended up matching her tan really well, so it worked.

Been a good two weeks here...

My wife and I went to the casino for her birthday last weekend and we both doubled our money at the craps table.   I bought a new truck last week.  And finally I won a good bit of money this past Saturday betting on Nate Diaz to upset Conor McGregor.

I figure I better spill the chuff.

Last year was horrendous on many, many levels for me. My employer had been bought out by a very abusive company. It took them no time at all to drive our business into the ground and they asked me to do a number of unethical and a few illegal things in the process. I held my breath until the birth of my third child and went on a full 12 week unpaid leave, figuring that I could spend the leave time to find new work. My son was born with a heart defect, leaving me in a state of running between being in hospitals/infant critical care units/specialist visits and taking care of my other children who are to young to even be allowed to visit. I was exhausted and spent almost my entire leave on medical care, without any time to do anything. With my FMLA expiring, I finally knocked out my resume for 4 job openings, which was all I could find even in a metro area since my job is very niche.

So the Chuff comes in that my son's operation was success, so much so that the cardiologists expect he wont need any additional surgery until adulthood. he has been doing just great, with the exception of having to go back into the hospital for a another week when he contracted RSV. Of the 4 jobs I applied, the 4th one called me back, and I got an interview. By the time I had made it home from the interview, I was called back and flat out offered the job.

I have been working my new job for almost a month now and in every way it is much superior to my last position. Meanwhile, my previous employer just declared bankruptcy this week and after nationwide restaurant shut-downs, they are less than half the size they were a month ago. It's sad, but Karma's a ---smurfette--- and the new owners deserve the results of their actions.

A few people checked in on me here via PM while I was out, and while I never had the shot to reply, I am very grateful for the messages. Thank you. I will try to be a bit more regular here going forward. If I can just figure out the best way to use tapatalk since more of my workload is on cell phone.

That's great news, Vigo.  I bumped into my old boss this morning (I basically did a ---fudgesicle--- this, I'm out of here routine last year) and got asked if I missed my job.  Laughed out loud, couldn't help it.  Same deal - offered job at interview.  More money, fewer problems = adios.

Anyway, steak was on sale tonight.  I cleaned out the display case.  Cashier was impressed.

So, so sick of chicken.

I've got some chuff. Picked up 4 games this weekend. Actually, 3 of them were hand delivered by the sellers.

- Asteroids Deluxe - Plays but monitor needs a cap kit

- Space Duel - Doesn't turn on, missing glass, missing 1 speaker, cp is gross but I have a spare

- VS Super Mario Bros - Plays but has a hacked up wire harness inside. Monitor needs a cap kit. All around fugly machine. Not sure what to do with this machine. Might convert it.

- Mario Bros Wide Body - The one I'd really been waiting for. Very good cosmetic shape. Just needs a little exterior cleanup and some new artwork. One of my "must-haves"

Got a little carried away this weekend and spent some cash on all these. Not sure if I will keep them all but I'm apparently a sucker for projects.

Yea, I've got enough stuff to keep me busy this summer that's for sure. (However, I might have to table these restores for one BYOAC project I've wanted to do for a long time)

And having a squeaky clean PCB is pretty nice isn't it?

We go to the beach so much we decided we'd take a trip out to the hill country.  San Antonio sure is dirty and small after you've lived in Houston for three years... Didn't feel compelled to stop on our way through at 80mph.

Anyway, nice place thus far.  Panty slider for $150ish a night.

I don't use illegal drugs, so you'll have to tell me.

(It's some fruit flavor infuser water bottle thing.  I gave it away.)

I'd be a weed machine if it was legal in my state.  I much preferred pot to booze back in the day.

It'll be nice once pot is federally legalized and all the people on drug-related charges can just be released.  I don't even do drugs, nor do I ever intend to, but we live in a country where pot is illegal but cigarettes and alcohol, which are FAR more dangerous, are a-ok.

I could be the hippie that sells baked cookies and fudge in their totally organic shop... it'll be great.  :)

Here's some good vacation chuff.  My daughter and I played Super Monkey Ball Ticket Blitz.  My wife couldn't get a good action shot but every time we started a level she would scream and laugh until the end.

Love Monkey Ball on the console, disturbs me a little that it's a redemption game now.  Nowhere near as bothered by that though as I am by Flappy Bird being an arcade game.

It dawned on me as I munched on free cookies and sipped free soda that I haven't prepared or paid for food since Saturday morning.  It's been an interesting journey of lobster, ham, fancy white people tacos, cake, and 'gourmet' pizza.  I'm unsure how I'm going to roll this into tomorrow but I'm determined to go a week.

I have some bad chuff turned into good turned into bad back into good.

The bad: I thought I killed my crt monitor at almost 2:00am in my mame cabinet last night doing some maintenance and moving some cables around before bed with the back panel off - saw a blue spark and the monitor turned off. Immediately turned off the power strip. I thought I was done and headed to bed and now this comes up :censored:

Checked around - turns out a disconnected spade connector from the original jamma power supply wiring shorted out to ground. I *had* electrical tape on it but the crap must have slid off. Checked my fuses, one had blown. Breathe deeply, replace the fuse and plug it in to a different outlet (just to be sure that wasn't an issue.) it turns on...and seems to work just fine for a good 5 minutes!

Great right? So I unplug it and plug it back into the original power strip and...nothing. I check my second fuse. Also apparently toast now. I should have figured both fuses probably got damaged from that initial shock. Still trying to keep cool, I replaced that one too. Both look like very old fuses fwiw.

Plug it in...monitor hums and blinks on...the image is coming inbut now I have a rolling screen in every possible direction...son of a

I'm pulling my hair out at this point, I really think I severely damaged the monitor.

BUT...taking a look in the morning (after begrudgingly giving up for the night) turns out when I was climbing behind my open cab and changing the outlets/cords around I bumped a switch I installed on my vga cable for choosing the sync line to my 'off' position...flipped it and...

 :notworthy:

It's back in action. What a relief!

So that's my good chuff for today. Lesson learned - going to zip-tie/secure my wiring before making more changes.

Been getting free food 2-3 time a week since my new job. Office ran out of room for people so they built a new area off the training center. Not only am I in the trendy new area with Sit/Stand desks, but now anytime there is a group in for training, I get to help myself to the catering.

And my old job? The office is completely closing. I would have been laid off last week Thursday had I stayed with them. Been stopping by the old office dumpsters this week to check for loot. Not much of the good stuff has been dumped yet.

Last night I met Black Youngsta at Pizza Patron.  For $5 walked away with a stack of nerd movie bootlegs, his mix cd, and his rap album.  Which admittedly wasn't too bad.

If you find yourself in Houston this guy may be a good start to a fun evening...

I give those guys a few shekels for their CDs, but I never listen to them.

My favorite was a guy who sold me a couple outside a convenience store. Looking at the inkjet-printed cover, I realized he took a picture of himself in front of the beer cooler inside said store.

I liked it, "backglass" is a little distracting.  Scoring is really low, like free game for cracking 250,000. Dragon plastic was well done.
