Title: Tekken 4 (Namco System 246)
Post by: jtoney on March 04, 2016, 12:19:20 pm
On my Tekken 4 System 246 I'm having issues where sometimes the hardware doesn't startup.  Sounds like it's not receiving power and sometimes it works sometimes it does not.  This is a conversion from Mortal Kombat, though I'm not sure what version.  I do know the wiring isn't in the best shape, someone did it in a hurry it appears.

is it indeed acting dead? (no power) or is maybe just your cdrom going for crap? I have replaced the DVD rom drive in just about every namco 246 we have at least once now. no error messages or anything, just a blank, black screen.

I can see diagonal lines running across the screen and I can physically see the fan spinning very low.  Makes me think something might be shorting out.  Usual fix is to turn it off, wait, and power back on.  Usually a couple of tries fixes the issue.

in that case I'd say power supply issue then. caps get old and dried out and load down the supply. when AC gets applied, power supply is dragged way low until enough juice builds up and it boots.

you can either recap the old supply (a few 1000uF and 2200uf caps) or buy a new one. (a computer ATX supply can be modded to work)
