Title: Ultimate I/O and Mini Grip Stick
Post by: fischb on March 02, 2016, 03:38:13 pm
I have a new build with everything working on my Ultimate I/O with the exception of the mini grip stick.  I have it grounded and plugged into the Ultimate I/O but none of the buttons or direction switched activate.

What am I doing wrong?

Can you take a picture of the wiring coming off the stick and into the board and post?

Is this the only component not working (i.e. are all other buttons working)?

Troubleshoot: use a multimeter to double check your ground chain and make sure that when you activate a button you get a corresponding jump on the meter. You could disconnect your ground chain and systematically start with button 1, then 2 ... until you see a fail. Download a keyboard tester on your computer to make sure that everything is mapped correctly.

I am unfamiliar with this joystick. Are the wires coming out of the bottom + and  - for the joystick buttons?

Did you ground all four switches on the and the buttons?  I can't remember which color wire is the grounding wire for the buttons, but I opened up my handle to see the ground wire and it was obvious.

I have a set up similar to yours, connected to an Ultimate I/O board. For initial testing, I would open up notepad and move the stick and press buttons, and see if the chars came out correct in notepad.

My FE (Mala) wouldn't see the mini.  But it works just fine in MAME.
