Anyone considering buying a new Raspberry Pi in the near future, might want to hold off for a bit, as it looks like a new version is just round the corner:

I have no interest in Bluetooth, and only a slight interest in WiFi. However, the faster 64bit processor does looks very interesting.

Yes. I'm very interested. If I can get a decent front end for mame to work on it, it could prove somewhat lucrative for me this summer. Has anyone successfully used a decent mame front end on a Pi? I'd love to see specs, etc. I'm not normally a dev-board dude, but these intrigue me.

Meh, it'll be hampered by the same problems the other ones have. Namely, the Pi community is full of abrasive shitlords and the device doesn't do anything better than an old computer.

nitrogen_widget has gotten Attract mode to run on the PI.

I just ordered a R-pi model B V3 to my mother-in-laws house to bring here in Nepal in two weeks.

Hahaha. I'm not looking for a vPin setup. I'm running full mame, including Killer Instinct 1 and 2 using an old Pentium 4 with 1GB of ram on 32-bit XP. That's really all I would need it for.
But the comment gave me a chuckle.

Benchmarks published by the rpi foundation claim the rpi3 is about 70% faster than the rpi2.
Their rpi2 vs rpi1 benchmarks are fairly accurate but I don't know if it will handle KI though.
RPI2 played them in slow motion using advmame.

Tried to get me one but already sold out on element14

I picked up a RP3 today. trying to play around with it and may use it for my first cabinet build. if it won't hold up, i'm going to use an i5 Intel NUC. I don't plan on doing any N64 or PS2 or more gaming on it.

I have the new pi3 and am impressed with its speed and the butt in wifi

I'm using an RPi3 in my cabinet build. It's been a mixed bag, performance-wise. To my surprise, I can't get Killer Instinct to run anywhere close to a playable framerate, though maybe I just haven't tried it with the right emulator. Yet Virtua Fighter, after some speed weirdness in attract mode, performs flawlessly. I wouldn't have thought that any 3D games would be on the table.
I might try to test its limits a bit more — Die Hard Arcade, for instance — and if I do I'll report back.

gotta ask.. i have this button layout, got both controllers to show up (xin-mo)

I've been playing around with my Raspberry Pi 2 lately. Figured I might as well shove it inside the X-Arcade or something. What still kills this thing for me is that the front ends are so dead looking. Reminds me of late 90s era. :-P

I love my Pi 3's I use them for away programming and gaming so I don't have to drag my laptop around. You can use 8bitdo, 360 or PS3 controllers or build a handheld. The emulation is pretty good especially with the new graphics processor. Wifi is excellent even if you knock the antenna off by mistake. Blue tooth supports all kinds of controllers and add ons.
If you can't find one through the regular channels The popular auction site has Pi 3's, 2's, zero's and so on for around $25 to $45 depending on the version. LCD's are also cheap and super easy to set up.
Even the program language is easy to learn. Yea the people over there can be ashes but there are lot good people too willing and wanting to help.
There's also plenty of tutorials with exactly what you need to know with out all the bs.
