Title: GroovyArcade - Daphne / Dragon's Lair
Post by: MrD on February 23, 2016, 01:41:35 pm
I set up my MAME machine using GroovyArcade.  I didn't want to mess with windows and it's working great for MAME.

I'd like to try and add Daphne to play Dragon's Lair and Space Ace.  I know there is a Linux version already.

Has anyone tried this?  Is there a quick and dirty set of instructions?   I've got the DVDs and I'll probably load it first on a Windows setup to get the video files set.   How do I get Daphne loaded up with GroovyArcade?  How do I add Dragon's Lair and Space Ace to the menus?

I'd appreciate any guidance!  Thanks!

It was and adventure for me to get Daphne working on Windows 7. I'm not aware of any set of instructions available for Linux, sorry. Regarding the frontend part, it'll be a matter of adding the emulator, snaps and roms to the frontend's setup file (advmenu.rc) or to the Attract Mode equivalent if that's your election. Good luck.

i actually did this last year.
there is a build of Daphne in the Arch Linux AUR
i went through a ton of issues satisfying the dependencies, but eventually got it to work.
i *may have* imaged the hard drive, but since it has crashed.

All in all, with some troubles - it's doable.
I'm thinking of revisiting this project again since i have finally obtained a horizontal mount cabinet.
I'll post any progress here in the near future.

ok, i have been able to get Daphne working consistently in GroovyArcade. I will be going away for a long weekend, but when I get back I will document what I have found to be the easiest (it's still kind of a steep learning curve to satisfy dependencies in Linux if you're not familiar with it)
One of the things you need to get out of the way right away is getting the local and keymaps in Archlinux setup properly.

I will post my results soon!
