Title: Unable to output video signal unless VGA monitor is connected during boot
Post by: BubbaMc on February 20, 2016, 10:36:42 am
Hi Guys,
I can only get a video signal from Windows 7 if an ordinary VGA monitor is connected when Windows starts up.

i.e. Booting with no monitor attached results in no video signal once Windows 7 desktop has appeared (I can hear the startup chime and connecting the monitor at this time results in no picture). The same behavior occurs when a 15khz monitor is connected.

However, booting with a VGA monitor attached results in picture when Windows starts, at which time connecting a 15khz monitor works.

Has anyone experienced this problem before? How can I boot the machine successfully with only a 15khz monitor connected?

Regular video card drivers do not give rise to this issue, only the CRTEmudriver. I.e I can boot with nothing connected, attaching a monitor after Windows starts results in a picture.

Sega Astro City/Nanao MS9
Dell Optiplex 960
Radeon HD4350
Windows 7 in Test Mode with CRTEmudriver

This issue is fixed in CRT Emudriver 2.0. Follow this guide: http://geedorah.com/eiusdemmodi/forum/viewtopic.php?id=298 (http://geedorah.com/eiusdemmodi/forum/viewtopic.php?id=298)

Everything worked up until executing mame with the -resolution 2560x0 -cleanstretch 2 options.

Toki launched in 640x480 interlaced.

Adding -resolution 2560x0 -cleanstretch 2 to mame.ini resulted in 640x480 interlaced also.

I could only get super resolutions to work by forcing one with ArcadeOSD, which works great except then I can't read anything on the Windows desktop

Any ideas why -resolution 2560x0 -cleanstretch 2 options wouldn't work?

I got it to work!

Problem was I had Nanao MS9 selected in Vmmaker. Changing the monitor to generic 15khz did the trick.
