------------------------------
Game Name: 10 Yard Fight
ROM Name: 10yard
------------------------------
Settings: (default)
Controls:
Joystick: 8 way
Buttons: 2 (1 - lateral, 2 - forward pass)
From KLOV: Each level starts on the kick-off with the player carrying the ball as far up the field as possible before being tackled. Then, as the quarterback, you can either run or pass the ball to a receiver. An intercepted pass earns a penalty of 20 yards. Running out of bounds stops the clock. Extra points after touchdowns can either be kicked or run into the end zone.
Competition ends Sunday, Feb 21st at midnight Pacific time.
Good luck!

I've been playing a lot of this on Janky Kong. You seriously picked one of the hardest games I've ever played.
-
Wasn't FireTrap just up here as a game to play? Dual 4 way a problem?

Yep, unplayable on a gamepad, probably not too good on 8-ways, I reckon most people don't even have one dedicated 4-way, let alone two.

I did consider people using other things. I played on a keyboard pretty well before my controls were installed. But I also assumed that a game pad would work. But no worries.

It's certainly challenging. I always get messed up by the fact that the defenders can intercept the ball, no matter how "high" it is in the air.

I've only ever scored one touch down in a game, and that happens every 10 games or so.
-
I'll sit this one out. I don't care for American Football, don't know anything about it, don't know what to do in the game except running zigzag to avoid getting caught.

Well crap. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to dis-clude you. (With both games! Argh.)
Oh, just an idea, I learned about the arcade version of this game from the "new series" of the No Quarter podcast, episode 127.

No problem. I'll find something else to amuse myself :)

I think 19,500 was my highest...

7300
This is tough. You really do need to read the defense and make split second decisions.
-
It's been a looong time since I played this one !! Very tough to get going but it comes back after awhile -- had a great game going and then threw 2 interceptions in a row to spoil it !! -- 20,650
-
Actually scored a touchdown this game! What does it take to actually move on to the next level? (College, right?)
21,300

Finally scored a touchdown!

And here I thought the 20,650 would hold up for a little while -- Had to go back and play a few more games -- Let's see how long this score holds up -- 24,250

I scored a second touchdown in high school and moved on to college!
Was congratulated by some cheerleaders. ;D
College defenders are way too fast.

Very impressive! :applaud:
I was hoping my 39k would hold. I've been experimenting with possible exploits, but so far have found nothing that can be used consistently.
-
I can tell you that I run the ball most of the time, shakin' em off as I go.
-
I've hated this game for 30 years.
:timebomb:

Interesting. My strategy has been forward pass unless the defense is inpenetrable. Also I try to go out of bounds or get tackled after I gain a first down, unless the timer is at zero.
-
Slight improvement but still need to get a better one (seems every game I get at least 1 interception that sets things back !!) -- 35,100

Wow! Some great scores! I have to admit that I am growing to LOATHE this game, haha.

One of my favorite games discovered via Mame. I know I've scored on the college team at least once....maybe even a couple of times. I might have to see what kinda score I can actually get on this frustrating game.
-
Argh! About to FINALLY score during the second half of high school! Nothing like a guy BEHIND you ON THE GROUND intercepting the ball! :timebomb: haha Is it sunday yet?
-
43,600
And i MAY be done trying. I picked a game that isn't good for my health... :lol
-
Here are the standings at the half-way point:
1st - Popsicle - 50,900
2nd - acvieluf - 43,600
3rd - Token - 39,700
4th - JDFan - 35,100
as an aside, if I end up in third again, I'd like to give the right to pick the game to the 4th place person. Would that be ok?
-
Why is the third person picking?
-
Why is the third person picking?
Isn't that the rule? I hope so, as I've picked the last two! That's how I understood it at least.

I've made a few first downs. Hooray! The guide on Game Faqs was annoying to read but reasonably helpful.
-
44,800
I got to college for the third time, but still haven't scored a TD against them.
This is my last score. I'm done with 10-Yard Fight.

Ok, i couldn't stop thinking about this game. Only due to the fact that i KNOW i can return the first kick for a touchdown, if i try enough. (I DID get one back to the 20 yard line)
Either way, I ended up scoring in college.
54,950

Finally got to the pro team. 55,550

Anybody else have a fight break out after the play ends?
No kidding, my receiver caught a pass over the middle and the safety instantly clocked him. The play ended and to my great surprise they stood across from each other and traded blows for a second.
EDIT: I'm not losing my mind (http://www.aussiearcade.com.au/showthread.php/76622-10-Yard-Fight)!

Argh. Just when I think I'm out, you pull me right back in! Haha

Congrats popsicle! Nice scores! :notworthy:
I played the kick-off close to 30 times yesterday, and got as close to the 10 yard line, but never scored. I DID see the fight animation, but was too slow to pause and capture it.
Heres how you initiate it: When the defensive safety (the one who is guarding your deeper receiver) is "over-top" of your receiver, it happens. He won't cut in and intercept, he'll just tackle as you catch it.
All in all, im glad this ones over.
-
Final scores.
popsicle 57,850
acvieluf 54,950
Token 44,800
JDFan 35,100
Token, your turn to choose the next one.

Congrats to all!
I'll have a new one up later tonight.
