I am sure it has been asked, but I did several searches to no avail.
Just got my cab finished and I am running .78 MAME in Mamewah on a 2.4ghtz XP machine.
When I am playing games and pushing multiple buttons, Windows pop up giving me Compaq specs on the computer, etc. Is there any way to disable these.
Thanks in advance,
~Tim

You are probably pressing a combination of the ALT or CONTROL keys that brings those screens up. You might want to remap those controls to another key to aleviate the problem. However, that problem might be Compaq specific and perhaps there is a way to disable those screens but I have never owned a Compaq so unfortunately cannot help you there.

Ok, I was wondering if it was normal or just my PC. It sounds like it is just me. I have a 4player CP so it seems like I am almost out of keyboard strokes as it is LOL. Gonna see if I can uninstall or disable this Compaq deal.
Thanks,
~Tim

Its possible that its coming from the bios, but more likely theres some kinda compaw help center loaded and running in the background.
If your pc is for a dedicated mame box you really should get all that extra "junk" offa there
My first pc was a 386, if you hit ctrl-alt-S it would jump to the bios, and ctrl-alt-Up or Down would go from turbo to normal mode

All you have to do is ditch the alt button. I realize that it's the default button2 for mame but.....
NEVER EVER MAP THE ALT BUTTON TO ANYTHING FOR ANY GAME!!!!!!!
Mapping the alt button for gameplay is left over from days when games booted into dos... it should have been outlawed as soon as windows 98 was introduced.

If you have Ad-ware installed (often by accidently clicking, or included with some P2P programs), this can happen. Try downloading Ad-Aware from www.lavasoftusa.com and uninstall any Adware.

This isn't the case.... although the compaq help desk is annoying, it's definately not adware. :)
