Title: RCA XL-100 with K7000
Post by: danielm7999 on February 03, 2016, 12:41:02 am
I know this site (as we probably all do) http://www.junknet.net/donor-tvs (http://www.junknet.net/donor-tvs)

BUT does anyone know if a 25" RCA XL-100 television with a chassis number of ctc185ab4 will work with a k7000. Model number on the the television is F25281. I have a Terminator 2 ded. cab with a failing CRT.

(The site listed above claims that a 25" RCA XL 100 television with chassis CTC177AH2 is a perfect drop-in for K7000. The TV I found is a 25" RCA XL-100, just a different chassis number.)

Thanks for any help!

Ok thanks Ed, thats what I figured  :-\ Man, now I know why I got a good deal on this T2 - it seems impossible to find a replacement monitor.

there is a few trick's here
a=if the tube # is the same
ie: a66
ie a68
etc
then u would need to know the EXACT kv7xxx chassic #
from there if u had the old yoke from the kv :most important:
and did a :COMPATITABLE TUBE SWAP: with the kv series yoke
it will work, but u want to use the orignal YOKE FROM THE CHASSIC
ie: 7xxx in your case..
but it take awhile to get it right

ed

side note here
and note to point or offend, but if u are a noob at tube swaps ?
walk away

No offense taken, good advice. Thanks again! But Im not sure what else I can do besides try to learn how to do it since Ive got a game taking up wasted space otherwise.

This all makes sense about the tubes/yokes etc, thanks..I  havent seen it spelled out so clearly. My chassis # is k7191 and I assume the yoke that was in my T2 cabinet when I bought it is the correct one. But I dont know anything about removing the yoke and reinstalling etc. I'll have to look up more on all of this. Thanks for layin it out straight Ed! Much appreciated!

get a signal converter and put a nice LCD in there, T2 doesnt require a CRT for the guns to work since they are positional guns.   This will buy you time until you can get the monitor repaired.

Thanks Ed! Very cool of you! I'll let ya know

And thanks Malenko! I had considered the LCD route as a last resort, but the original screen is 25" and LCD's are all widescreen right? So there wouldnt be space in the cabinet for it unless Im missing something obvious. And if I put a smaller widescreen that would fit, it would look horrible on a small screen

Next question in my saga of newbness with tube swapping:

I came across this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nj3kNfdWNdQ (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nj3kNfdWNdQ)
In it, the guy has his arcade tube that he wants to replace with a TV tube. He cuts off the old monitors molex connectors and splices/shrinkwraps them to a random TV's yoke & degaussing coil. Then he checks the ohm's to make sure theyre good, which they are. Then he hooks that all up to his chassis and powers it on with no issues other than needing degaussing, focus etc.

The first comment below the video asks: "How do you know which tube to use? Are you just familiar with that brand of tv and know that it works? Or are the neck board and yoke connections universal?"
He answers: "As long as the impedance matches on the yoke and the neck adapter matches your good to go. Virtually all 19 or 25 TVs will work."

Is this really correct? Sounds TOO EASY! And Ed, this sounds opposite of what you were explaining (I know you know what youre talking about, which is why Im running this guys info by you guys here).

ok fair enough
let me clear some thing up for you
i have been in electronics for 46 years
and yes i have done tube and yoke changes
used a new NOT known yoke on a donner chassic
and visa-versa
but 90% of the time,it can and WILL go south on u fast
and i know vert/horz impedance-tunning etc etc, even to the point of changing timming cap's to MAKE IT WORK
key word's there MAKE-IT-WORK..now for 1 minuite do think eng's go out of there way to play head game's with ppl?
u would be wrong
what that guy did was a LUCKY SHOT at best, what we have been saying is there
is a tried and true method to this
and it was explained clearly
