Title: Mapping racing games
Post by: fossmin on February 02, 2016, 07:39:43 pm
Newbie here. In MAME I am trying to map my controls to several racing games. None of the games seem to be pre-setup to accelerate or to a pedal. I can get the tires on the vehicle to turn, but none of them will accelerate. In the game settings there are several choices for a pedal. They are

P1 Pedal 1 Analog               Joy 1 Z Axix
P1 Pedal 1 Analog Dec        None
P1 Pedal 1 Analog Inc         Kdb Ctrl or Joy 1 Button 0

Which line would I change to make the vehicles accelerate?

Thanks

1.  Wrong forum.  Try driving and racing.  Also there is a primer stickied over there that should help you.

2.  Mame isn't magic.  There's zero standardization in regards to pc steering wheels and even less standardization between the various arcade titles.  Again, that primer over in driving and racing will help with this, but long story short, you will have to setup and tweak every single solitary racing game you add to your setup manually.

3.  Dec and Inc are for digital controls (you want to map it to a button), so just mess with the top one.

What Howard  said and ..... the first one would be the only one you would change.
You may also have to invert (reverse) the axis in the analog controls section of MAME's in-game menu (TAB) for one or both pedals.
(you can also accomplish this by mapping the pedal, then immediately remapping it a second time, but the second time have it held down before clicking the button to map it.
Then let it up when it's time to map.  The mapping in mame will show a minus sign next to it.)
You may also have to adjust the sensitivity in that menu.  (ignore the speed and center settings, those are for when substituting buttons for analog controls)
You may also have to calibrate the controls in the game's original service menu (usually F2, but some had DIP switch settings and other don't have the option)
Oh, and the steering will work like crap if you don't change the related mame.ini settings.   :lol

The driving cab subforum is here: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/board,55.0.html (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/board,55.0.html)
Read the stickied info thread, at least read the MAME section.

Also make sure there is no joystick deadzone in MAME before you start the game.
