Hello,
I recently purchased the I-PAC but I am facing issues to make it work.
The buttons connected as below..
But even I use WinPAC V2 software to assign the all buttons in the gamepad the buttons do not appear active in any of the Frontend softwares.
Actually checking the Windows game Controllers I can see I-PAC installed but on the properties tab none of the buttons or the joystick appear.
I reinstall the WinPAC V2 application or even changing USB port but no ting changed.
The Green light on the I-PAC board stays on all the time.
When i am assigning my buttons as key strokes in I-PAC then works fine ( checked in notepad)
It seems that the only problem comes as Gamepad controller is not recognizing properly.
The I-PAC board firmware is 1.31
Can you please advice for any solution?
Thank you
Panagiotis

The IPAC is a keyboard encoder. You SHOULD use the key mappings and not use the IPAC as game controller. Any emulator will be able to handle keyboard inputs. The default set of keys is even the standard MAME keyboard definition.

Thank you, so that means that it will work on MAME, I dint check as I was not getting any keystrokes in MALA. So How about the Frontend?
Trying to check the buttons function on MALA, the buttons are not identified automatically during testing.
What I need to do to control MALA as well?
-
As stated previously, it is a keyboard encoder. Just open a simple notepad window and you would get characters showing when keys are pressed (assuming the board is ok).

Start Mala. Press the right mouse button, go to 'options/configuration'. There is a tab called 'controller' in which you can set up your joystick and the keyboard, i.e. the I-Pac.
-
Alternatively, if it's an iPac2 from 2015 it can be programmed as a Game controller. (You didn't specify which version you had).

Yes that works

That Works in Keyboard tab only, but not in the Joystick tab..
Thank you all for your replies..
so I understand the I-PAC is keyboard emulator and as this works fine..
My question is why doesn’t work as a game controller as well? I just purchased this and suppose the supports that function as well .. or not?
Ultimarc respond to my email mentioned to try that http://www.planetpointy.co.uk/joystick-test-application/ as a game controller, as maybe Windows game controller is not responding well.
Installing this freeware application and testing the buttons works fine when I setup them in I-PAC as gamepad..With the existing functionality whenever I setup the buttons as gamepads none of the FE recognize them.. and the only option is to use keyboard emulator ..
So that means that something wrong with Windows game controller? I-PAC? Any idea?

Did you check the 'use joystick' box in the controller/joystick tab ?
If that doesn't work, I'd just set MaLa up for the keyboard and be done with it. The I-Pac maps all joystick directions to the arrow keys, so just map all MaLa functions you want to control with the joystick to the arrow keys and you should be good to go.

Yes i did that but doesnt work..so only available option is the keyboard..

So, just set everything up in 'controller/keyboard', you should be able to use the joystick then.

That's assuming he has the joystick wired to the ipac. His picture doesn't show that a joystick is wired up.
How is the Joystick wired?

yes 2 joystick are wired to I-PAC

Try to fire up MAME and check if the joysticks / buttons work correctly, so that we can narrow your problem down to MaLa.
-
How I can reset MALA & MAME configuration? I want to start over from scratch .. So many changes I lost the ball
-
For MaLa, go to the MaLa directory and delete mala.ini.
For MAME, go to the MAME directory, then to the CFG directory, delete default.cfg.
-
One more Problem.. Whenever I use a diagonal joystick movement to any of the directions nothing happens, I have to use up or down or left or right but none of any of those combination works. It's locked in 4 movement instead of 8.
How I can unlock this?
-
That depends on what type of joystick you use. If it's a dedicated 4-way, it probably has a restrictor plate mounted underneath it which physically prevents the joystick from reaching the diagonals. If you remove that plate, you have an 8-way joystick.
If it's an UltraStik360, you need to program it via the UltraMap software from ultimarc.com.
There are other types of switchable joysticks out there, but those I don't know anything about.

Just to post the solution that was easy and provided by Ultimarc
I delete the "USB Input devices" from Windows device manager and restarting the USB game controller now all buttons appear correctly..
