Title: Installing CRT emudriver 2.0 over older version
Post by: big10p on January 29, 2016, 11:46:08 am
Hi

Now my MAME cab is fixed, I'm going to try and install the latest version of CRT emudriver (and other tools). Do I need to uninstall the old version first, or can I just install the new version over it? Also, am I right in thinking that the new version no longer requires a modded VGA cable with resistors, to force monitor detection?

Thanks.

I'd uninstall the previous version (I understand you're using Windows 7). A modded cable should not be needed any more.

Yes, win7 (sorry, should have said). Great stuff! Thanks.

Can't seem to install the new drivers. I uninstalled the old drivers first, but noticed it still says "Test mode" on the bottom right of the desktop. I've even tried using the AMD clean uninstall utility.

I've been using the guide here:
http://geedorah.com/eiusdemmodi/forum/viewtopic.php?id=298 (http://geedorah.com/eiusdemmodi/forum/viewtopic.php?id=298)

In setup.exe, I get a message saying the drivers installed OK (although the screen doesn't go on/aff at all, as suggested it will). Afterwards, the listed driver still says microsoft, instead of CRT emudriver.

Any ideas what I need to do?

Thanks

[edit] Nevermind. I'm going to try re-installing Win7 and see how I get on...

Still no luck after a clean win7 install. I get as far as enabling test signing, with the message showing in the bottom right of the desktop after the first restart. Then I run setup again and install driver. I get a message almost instantly saying driver installed OK, without the screen turning on/off at all. My ATI 4350 is then still listed as using an MS driver, instead of CRT emudriver. I've been following the guide above exactly, so no idea what I'm doing wrong.

Please help!

I had a similar issue this morning trying to install 2.0 over 1.2, it seems no matter what I did the originals would not disappear and the computer was always in "test mode" even after I thought I got rid of 1.2

Instead of running the setup right away browse to device manager and find your radeon display adapter.

Right click > properties > driver tab > update driver > browse my computer for driver > let me pick from a list > have disk

From there you can browse to the driver directory/ini file for the 2.0 drivers, this will force install them rather than telling you your current drivers are up to date.

After that you can run the setup and it should show you if your radeon has the crt emu driver installed.

Hopefully it works for you as well.

I didn't even think about trying to install it that way - I was so obsessed with following the guide exactly. I'll give it a try and report back. Thanks!

That seems to have done the trick. Thanks a lot, robbbby!

I'm determined to fix this setup issue, it has been reported by a few people already, but I see no way to reproduce it here. Maybe you guys may help me. I'd need to repeat your exact steps. If you have seen this after a fresh Windows reinstall, I wonder if you could upload your specific Windows iso somewhere and pm me with a link so I can have the exact same installation here. Also, the video card exact PCI ID would be of help. The exact place where you uncompress the Emudriver files and launch the Setup.exe from would also be interesting info.

I'd be happy to help if I can. I guess it must be down to some seemingly insignificant difference that's causing the installation to fail, sometimes. A couple of possibilities on my end may be the fact my win7 installation disc is Dell branded, and may have some other differences, other than simply branding the OS with the Dell logo, etc.

One other thing. As my MAME PC has no internet connection, I downloaded the CRT emudriver + tools package on another PC. Then I unzipped it, copied the files to a portable drive, and copied them onto my MAME PC. I've just remembered that this sometimes changes the files' attributes to read only. Maybe this has an effect?

Hopefully the installation issue is fixed with new beta 8.

Indeed, the issue was probably a very, very silly bug. If the installation files path contained spaces, the installation wouldn't start. Maybe your user name contains spaces? If that's the case, probably your desktop path does too. Anyway, provided that was the bug, it is fixed now.

My user name is just 'Chris', so no spaces.

Did you unzip the drivers on the desktop and launched them from there?

No - I did wonder why you mentioned the desktop path. :) I copied them into a folder called "CRT emudriver v2", and ran setup.exe from there. That of course does have spaces, so sounds like this was the problem?
