Title: Width coil question
Post by: arcadepcnut on January 12, 2004, 03:48:13 pm
http://www.dameon.net/BBBB/wc.html

I have the 3rd one from the left (the black one)on a monitor and it is broken. Ferite center has broken since it froze in place. I have many extra boards that I can salvage a width coil from but they all look like the second one from the left (the white one that looks like a thread spool).

Are they interchangable?

Thanks in advance!

Width coils are NOT interchangeable. Just like yokes and flybacks, they are made for specific makes and models of monitors.

If the coil is broken, order a new one from either Bob Roberts, Zanen Electronics, or the monitor manufacturer.

TIP: If the coil slug is glued or is stuck, blow the heat from a hair dryer on it for a couple of minutes to soften the glue/loosen the slug core. NEVER use an Allen wrench to turn the slug. Use plastic hex alignment tools (available at Radio Shack) only.

Yeah. I know that now (about what tools to use. It was frozen and the plastic adjust tool broke off in the hole). So I dont feel like I didnt try everything possible. Thanks for saving me some time with switching out the coils.

Thanks. I found the part I needed from bob roberts. Not too expensive...I'll make sure to use plastic tools on this one ;)

Bob Roberts is an excellent source of replacement parts and general information.  8) His parts prices are very resaonable, too.  ;D
