Title: No ground wire in PC speaker wiring

Next issue! Now that my power noise issues are sorted with my Creative SoundWorks amp/speaker setup, I proceeded to add my own potentiometer to the wiring, but was surprised to see no ground wire. I am left with just a left and right wire with just a plastic sleeve around them both. Without a ground, how can the potentiometer work?

I'm not sure I understand. Speakers need a positive and negative connection to work. Can you post some pics?

Ok I think I have solved it. I took a picture of the wire and zoomed in to post it here and at full zoom I could just see that in the middle there seem to be a more compact core, and turns out there is an extra wire in the middle of the all the shielding that I originally mistook for the main connection. I assume one is the earth and the other + or -
BTW, out of a PC line out, what is the rating required for a dual gang potentiometer?

Yes it works, those wires are tiny but they do have the + or - inside the ground wiring (the mesh). All connected to a 10k dual gang pot and it works great, no more PC/electrical noise since I have fed the amp with its own 12V power supply.
