Title: ACT LABS (PC/TV)`GUN Question
Post by: Generic Eric on January 12, 2004, 12:25:06 am
On ebay, I saw two playchoice 10 pistols.  So, I bid on them and one.  I got them with the intent of buying and breaking open the act labs gun.

Has anyone opened theres yet?  I am wondering what is the size of the pcb in the act labs gun?  Of course I have to be able to fit it in my nintendo gun.

Just wondering if anyone has travelled down this road yet.

Post pic or links if you have.  Thanks!

The boards inside are really small. The front sensor board is about 3/4" long by 1/2" wide.
There is a longer skinny pcb along both sides of the gun for the reload button and mode switch. These are 2 1/8" long by 3/8" tall.
The trigger switch board is about 3/4" X 3/4"
That's all that's inside the gun itself, except for the 7/8" Diameter lens at the front of the gun.
It looks like adding all these parts to another gun would be very easy, with the exception of properly spacing the lens and optical sensor/pcb.
Hope this helps.
A review, with complete disassembly pictures/specs will be available on my site very soon.

Your results are going to be sub par unfortunately.  The shaft length of a playchoice gun is much longer than the actlabs.  Thus the lense will be either out of alignment or darkened (way back in the barrel, causing shadows to hit it)  so that the gun is less responsive.  Since your going to do it anyway though I wish you luck.

I would try to keep things as close to their original size as possible (openings, lens distance, etc...) and you MAY be OK.
That's what this board is all about though--buy something, tear it apart, and see if you can get it to work again.

Just so that you know, the jack-in-the-box I had at age 4 never was quite the same after I got to it.
I did find out how it worked though.
AND, the giraffe with the spring coming out his butt that would shoot across the room at my sister after that WAS kinda neat.
