Title: How to check that an Optipac is able to read the spinner
Post by: davepl on January 06, 2016, 09:13:26 pm
I have an Optipac and wired it to an original Tempest spinner as follows (viewed from underneath, looking at the connector):

SIG1 NEG POS SIG2

When I plug the Optipac in it shows up as two mice in the Device Manager, which is good.  But I don't know how to proceed to find out if the spinner is working.  If I run

mame64.exe -mouse tempest

...then the desktop mouse moves the player but not the spinner.  I don't know if turning the spinner should be moving the mouse around.

Is there a test app?  Everything on the Ultimarc website seems to be for the iPac and larger boards, nothing for the Optipac, but they -show- a small app that I can't find.

If anyone could tell me "Now that you've plugged it in, and it's wired, to make sure it works at all, just...." (ie: how does that sentence end?)

Many thanks!
Dave

I found many threads with people having the same problem.  Ultimately, I solved it as follows:

- Download the Optipac utility at the bottom of the Optipac webpage (it's unintentionally well hidden, but it's there)
- Run it
- Check the boxes for P1 Spinner X and Y (or wherever you have the Tempest spinner connected)
- Click "SEND" to update the Optipac

This solved it for me, and it's now working properly.  Would likely have solved it for the others asking too, but I never saw resolutions to those threads...

PS: I hope I only get it because I'm new, but the Captcha to post each time is brutal...
