Title: can't get any image with crt emudriver 2.0 beta 3
Post by: Vaderman on January 04, 2016, 06:06:21 pm
Hi, i have a problem with the new crt emudriver and my config. My machine is a pentium g 3258, msi h81m-e33 motherboard, 4 gb ram, ati 4550 pci-e and my crt is a sony trinitron kv-21ls30e. My vga-scart cable is made like this:

I was using this setup with windows xp 64 and crt emudriver 1.2b withouth problems. Yesterday I installed windows 7 x64 and the crt emudriver 2.0 beta 3.

The drivers were installed ok, then I installed the vmmaker using the default generic 15.7 khz preset settings, all this using my lcd monitor. Then I started arcade_osd and selected a 15 khz low res, and inmediately my monitor shows < d-sub out of range 15.6 khz / 60 hz >.

After that I unplug the monitor and plug the tv cable, but the tv doesn't seems to sync to the resolution, it keeps showing the av1 symbol waving slightly. I tried changing the polarity setting like Calamity stated in this post :

I was just in the process of testing this again. In arcadeosd when both vsync and hsync are negative the modes won't display. As soon as I change them both to positive the mode displays. Still won't work in groovymame but they will test ok in arcadeosd. I've tried the old vmmaker but it still has issues. I'll keep going trying to figure out why.

So are you trying all this with new vmmaker?
If that's the case, enter the monitor presets settings, and edit your current crt_range with +hsync and +vsync. Then generate and install the modes again.

monitor "ms929", "Nanao MS9-29", "4:3"
        crt_range0 15450-16050, 50-65, 3.910, 4.700, 6.850, 0.190, 0.191, 1.018, 1, 1, 192, 288, 448, 576
        crt_range1 23900-24900, 50-65, 2.910, 3.000, 4.440, 0.451, 0.164, 1.048, 1, 1, 320, 384, 0, 0

But it doesn't work either.

Any clue about this? Thanks in advance.

P.S: Sorry about my bad english.

Hi Vaderman,

May you try VMMaker 1.4b (http://geedorah.com/eiusdemmodi/forum/viewtopic.php?id=65 (http://geedorah.com/eiusdemmodi/forum/viewtopic.php?id=65)) over the 2.0 drivers?

Just remind to restart the system after running vmmaker.

I just did it, and now it works! What's the problem then?

Thank you very much for your help.

Thanks for testing.

The problem is I made a change in VMMaker 2.0 that fixes the refresh of interlaced modes. Thanks to this change now emulators that use d3d and interlaced modes run at the correct speed (this had been an issue for ages).

But unfortunately this breaks sync for some setups.

I'll need to find a way to workaround, otherwise sadly I'll need to ditch this change.

Thanks again for your work. I'll stick with xp64 in the meanwhile, hope you get the fix with ease. If you want me to test anything let me know.

Another question, there are many vga-scart desings, which one is the correct or the best? Or it's better to buy an UMSA to get proper csync signal?

I hope You will find solution, otherwise two methods could be implemented in VMMaker as options, right ?

I just installed the new beta 5 and everything seems to work nicely now...

Except that it takes some seconds at changing resolutions or changing settings in arcade_osd compared to xp64 and older 1.2b drivers, that was almost instantaneous. The screen turns black an then shows the image.

Is this normal?

This is because you have 2 monitors enabled in the desktop (caused by forced monitor detection feature in CRT Emudriver). You need to disable one of them. Check the guide (http://geedorah.com/eiusdemmodi/forum/viewtopic.php?id=298) I've posted.

I have followed your guide step by step and everything is perfect now, like in windows xp.

I take my hat off to you. :applaud:
