I've found a few cps2 system cartridges and was curious about how this works. I've looked up tutorials but all I get are emulator lnks.
I do know that an A-board and a B-board are needed but nothing else. Like what connections and hardware or controls do I need. Does the A-board have to match the particular B-board or can us any B-board with any A-board.

As far as I know, all the B boards work with the A board, but I can only confirm green and blue since I have those. It's a standard jamma system with a kick harness. It has stereo outputs, but I've only used the regular mono jamma output.
If you have a fighting game, you need a kick harness. This is the only new one I see on e-bay. I think you can beat the price and I haven't personally bought from this vendor, but you can see what you need.

This is what to read to learn about CPS2.
