Hey guys, toying with the idea of setting up a 2nd monitor with my groovymame rig, to display marquees etc.
Thing is I'm falling at the first hurdle. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
My groovymame pc is inside my cab connected to the crt at 31k.
I have a 4890 gfx card with dual output.
I have an old LCD monitor that I've also connected to the gfx card. It is detected in Windows and is identified as screen 2 in Windows.
The crt is screen 1.
I have selected extended desktop and set the LCD at 640*480 to match the crt.
My first question, is the above the correct way to configure the LCD in Windows?
Secondly, when I run name, it always opens on the LCD and not the crt.
In the mame menu it is calling screen 0 the LCD.
If I run the verbose command it says //./display2 is primary.
How do I get name to always display on the cry regardless if I'm using one monitor or two?
Thanks.

Once you identify which display number is the CRT, say its \\.\DISPLAY33
mame64.exe gamename -screen0 \\.\DISPLAY33
If you want to map 2 screens from MAME use -numscreens 2, then map -screen0 and -screen1 to the right displays.

Thanks calamity.
Will try this.
I thought this was one of the things I tried yesterday. Display1 is the crt and 2 is the LCD but mame still kept opening on the LCD or both screens went dark and nothing appeared.
Im also getting groovymame error about resolutions when opening, presumably because it is trying to open on the LCD instead of the crt its setup for. Dose.
Anyway, I'll go at it again and report back.
Is extended desktop the correct setup in Windows do you know?

Yes.
You may run into detection issues with that kind of setup. The new CRT Emudriver can help you there forcing display detection for the analog output.

Thanks Calamity, plenty for me to try out and test.

Hey Calamity,
Trying a few things out here.
I update to 169 and installed latest crt drivers.
Not sure if related, but for some reason with no second monitor connected to gfx card, windows keeps thinking here is a second monitor and tries to extend etc.
AT first it saw another generic monitor on the second dvi, i completely removed the vga cable and dvi adapter. Now it thinks there is a monitor on vga!
Any ideas? Thanks

That's the forced monitor detection new feature, it's normal.

Ah ok. Groovymame acting up a bit then as I'm getting the resolution spec errors on launch.
Could that be because I updated crt drivers and not vmmaker?
Any other possibilities for the errors?

The new tools are in the drivers package, why could you be using the old ones?
(of course you should be using the new ones)
Anyway, once you are in the GM stage, please post a log so I can see what's going on.

I installed drivers late last night and when I went back this morning i forgot that I hadn't updated vmmaker :-[
Anyway, I think I have vmmaker installed now using generic 31k monitor option.
Trying to get one monitor and groovy back working, think its ok now.
I would be most grateful if you could check attached logs to see.

Looks fine now.

Today I have tested my HD 4350, with CRT Emudriver 2.0, with two monitors:
- Dell LCD on \\.\DISPLAY1 (DVI-VGA)
- Sony CRT TV on \\.\DISPLAY2 (VGA-UMSA-SCART)
Working great here.
