Title: MV-1A No Sound
Post by: LowTierDad on December 23, 2015, 10:55:39 am
Hello Everyone!

Let me start off by saying I am far from knowledgeable but I will do my best to hide it in my question haha. I originally had a cabinet that had street fight ex installed. It had a standard jamma harness with a kick harness. Last night I rewired it to work for the MV-1A. The problem I am having is there is no sound. No sound in game, no sound at hardware test screen. I have been reading quite a bit on potential problems it could be. None of the examples I encountered were quite like mine so I figured I would post my own question.  :dunno

Also I was wondering if it would be possible to just hard line computer speakers in the cabinet?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Probe the edge connector at the audio pins with a multimeter and see if you get a voltage. If you do, do a continuity test on your speakers with them unplugged.

I'm not a pro, but I think those are a few easy tests to start. Mv1a is jamma compliant. I'm assuming it passes audio via regular jamma + and - audio pins.

If you fail the first test, you might want to seach about an audio cap that goes on these boards. Maybe it will be clearly visible if burt out.

First place I would check for MVS issues is channelmaniac's repair log (before I just give up and send him the board for repair).

As keilmillerjr mentions, the audio caps are a possible suspect and CM sells an audio cap kit for the MV1 series:

Good luck!

If you have a logic probe with audio it's easy to check to see if the problem is in the digital or analog section of the board.

See a video I posted for more information:

With that said, most Neo Geo volume issues are related to bad caps on the board. They used crap capacitors!

But, before you go replacing caps, jiggle the mono/stereo switch on the board back and forth a few times.

Hey everyone! Sorry for the late response, Christmas was quite hectic! I will try everything you guys listed and if I need to I will buy audio caps. Can someone link me the best site? I found some and they only look like they cost $4.00 which seems a bit cheap

The link I provided (arcadecomponents.com) is where I would buy and is channelmaniac's site. I've dealt with him before with MVS issues and have purchased parts from him as well. A++

Good luck and be sure to post back.

Awesome thanks! I will buy them just to have them and not need them.
