Title: Weird behaviour in controls such as spinner/mouse when playing arkanoid games
Post by: Edglaf on December 15, 2015, 11:12:49 am
Hi,

First of all, sorry if this is not the proper place to start this topic:

I managed to successfully install Arch-based linux distro Groovyarcade and the Groovymame ver. that comes with it (GroovyArcade-Arch2015.02.15-x86_64.iso). I set up the whole thing to use it with a vertical monitor (a rotated scart TV actually).

I enabled the mouse just to play arkanoid-like games and at this pont is where I meet the issue. Indeed any optical mouse I plug in is recognised but sometimes, when you are moving left and right for example the vaus capsule in arkanoid, it sometimes gets stuck unexpectedly in the middle of the screen. Other times you just can only operate the capsule in the left half of the screen, next ball play only in the right half etc.

I´ve tried to only plug in a single mouse device in case there might be some kind of conflict, no joystick either. Any other attempts like disabling light gun support in mame.ini bring the same dismal results. I´ve ruled out a hardware failure because any mouse/spinner works smoothly and flawlessly in LXDE Desktop.

Any ideas? Help is much apreciated,

Thanks in advance,

Performing further reading through the forum I´ve noticed that the issue is the same as the one referred here: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,140359.0.html (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,140359.0.html)
I assume that the problem has not been worked out yet. So I'd better wait for a next version release?

Hi Edglaf,

Assuming it's the same issue, if you follow that thread you'll see that the problem has been worked out already.

Hi Edglaf,

it seems that you are running an old version of the groovymame executable (plz confirm).

You can try one of the latest groovymame version available  here (https://googledrive.com/host/0B5iMjDor3P__aEFpcVNkVW5jbEE/v0.168_015k).
No XINPUT is the non-wiimote version.

If I remember well the beta distro have a quite old groovymame version. Be informed that the configuration file named ume.ini is deprecated since the merge of MESS inside MAME. Only the mame.ini configuration is used.

Thanks! Already solved

I just replaced the groovymame file and now mouse-based analog controls work perfectly. You are right, apparently the iso file I used contained a version which was too old (could not tell which one, sorry). I took for granted that the latest groovyarcade iso file would come with the latest groovymame realease.
Sorry, I´m just new to this...

I am happy to hear that you found the solution ;-) Indeed, the goovyarcade distribution is getting old these days. I do not know if an updated version will come out in a near future. I can only recommend to upgrade the distro with pacman and pickup the Linux groovymame build from the goolge drive.
