Title: Rowe R-81 carousel problem
Post by: JohnnyNebula on December 13, 2015, 04:08:54 pm
I was reading the arcade controls forum looking for an answer to my jukebox problems and you seemed to be the folks to come to. I hope you can help. I recently got my hands on an R-81 that was in working order when i bought it. In transit the player arm and turntable both came out of their slots (the jukebox was laid on its back unfortunately). I re-soldered the player arm connections and it seems to be playing fine except for some counterweight issues, but now i can't get the machine to rotate the carousel or select a different record. It's stuck on number 77. Once it finishes playing the disc it replaces it and then immediately re-selects it in a seemingly endless cycle.  Also the turntable won't stop spinning at all while the machine is on. The selection display is also only half working. I can read the top half of each number I input. It seems like its accepting the selection but then never plays it. On the "Mechanism Control Unit" the lights for TRANSFER MOTOR and SCAN are both on, but the lights for START TRANSFER and TOGGLE SHIFT are both off. All LEDs on the power supply are on. The LED for DATA on the "Memory Unit" is off. I'm new to this jukebox and have ordered the manual, but any of your expert advice is greatly appreciated. If there's any other information I can give you please let me know. I can send pictures too if necessary.

Thank you,
John

Hi John,

Welcome to the forum.

I would assume that being as you are not seeing any activity on the clock & data led's and you have display activity. You can check for dry joints (called cold joints USA) on all the boardson the connection pins only.
NOTE BEWARE the electronic boards contain CMOS chips and are highly susceptible to static discharge, so safe handling practices must be used.

It might be an idea to send the following boards to a Rowe Ami specialist, In Europe I undertake this work.

Memory Unit 601-07666 (original but could be fitted with a 301-07855 from a R-82 or R-83)
Selector Logic 601-08060
Mechanism Control 401-06905

Alan
