Title: Windows keys not working as inputs any more?
Post by: Cretster on December 03, 2015, 03:52:34 am
Hi guys

I've been doing some work on my cabinet after not using it much for a while and after installing a couple of new games I found that 2 of the buttons are not working as control inputs.
Pretty certain they are the left & right windows keys, which have a registry tweak to prevent them actually working as their original function, but they've always worked ok since then as controls.

My input adaptor is PC Arcade Controller Mk2.  I know there are better hardware options but this has been fine for years for me and I really don't want to change it at this point.  I'm sure it's an issue on the software side of things but if anyone can help with suggestions for what's wrong it'd be cool - it's a nightmare playing streetfighter without heavy punch!!!

Cheers!
Jim

Don't quote me on this, but a while ago mame added settings to block those keys by default.  I'm unsure if you can unblock them, but try looking in the mame.ini and the global input settings within mame.

Thanks for the reply Howard - I really appreciate it.

Thing is - it's only now you mention Mame that I've realised that's the one thing I haven't actually tried it with, and the one thing I know for sure it was fine with previously!
I know that sounds stupid but I started out using Mame (via GameEx), but now also have a lot of PC games installed on my arcade too, plus console emulators, and a proper xbox360, and it was the PC version of Mortal Kombat X and Streetfighter/Tekken where I realised these keys weren't working.

I should actually try Mame and see - sorry, should have already done it!

For those games you are most likely going to need the xbox 360 gamepad hack stickied in this forum.... they don't like keyboards period.

I will check that out - thanks very much for the tip.  I do use a 360 pad that for some games, like Mad Max that I recently put on it, and obviously the games I play on the 360 itself.

Will go have a look though, appreciate the heads up, thanks!  :)
