Has anyone even tried to hack a gamecube?
I've been thinking about, but would like to know if it's even possible.

If by hacking a gamecube, you mean to connect it to arcade controls, i think that it is probably doable. However, it is extremely difficult (or nearly impossible) to interface the analog joystick to arcade controls. This means you are limited to games that use the digital joypad, which for the gamecube is rather small.
Still you would be able to play some sweet games like ikaruga, soul caliber 2 and (maybe?)smash brothers. Check out this console hacking site. Although they only have instuctions for dreamcast and x-box controllers, the idea is the same for gamecube.

We are not allowed to talk about "pirating"
(--- saint --- so don't talk about it then, not here, not in private messages. Thanks. ---- saint ---)
If you are talking about building sticks for gc.Sure why not.
Shouldn't be hard, its just like any other pad.
Avoid first party pads though, get a madcatz pads or something.
Or get the pelican universal stick for ps2,xbox,gamecube.
Thats only $20 and very easy to solder(huge contacts).
