Title: WG 13K4713 hold issues?
Post by: BGoulette on November 23, 2015, 09:42:07 am
Hi all,

My friend acquired a Yie Ar Kung Fu cocktail last weekend, and when we fired it up, we were treated to this:

Controls for -- I think -- horizontal hold, vertical hold, and vertical size (not necessarily in that order)

Um...yeah...

Through tweaking the controls, we managed to largely eliminate the shearing, but the hold is shot: the best we could achieve was an oddly sinusoidal undulation of the picture. It felt like looking at an oscilloscope that used Yie Ar Kung Fu instead of a glowing blue-green line :)

So my question(s): Would recapping solve any of this? And if so, where would I look to determine which caps -- or, assuming they all need to be replaced, where's the best place to obtain a kit for such a monitor? Of course, if it's not a cap issue, are there any other suggestions? Thanks!

i think you have a sync issue.  no video sync signal usually looks about like this.

double check the video wiring from your game to the monitor and make sure it's all good and you have no corroded connectors. rub a pencil eraser over the game boards pins to get rid of any oxidation. slide the connectors off and on a few times to make sure you get a nice fresh connection.

Thanks for the suggestion! We'll hit it with some contact cleaner and check the connections and see if that helps. If it does, I'll be sure to report back!
