Hi all,
not sure if this is quite the right forum but hope it is. I recently got an Aimtrak Light Gun and think it should work as it emulates a USB Mouse?
Has anyone got a gun working on it yet? Can anyone point me to what file i need to edit to enable it?
I read somewhere about creating a mame.ini and setting lightgun to 1 but i cant find where i read it.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Many thanks.

I think drivers would be an issue, but I do have a topgun and a spare pi to test.......

The aimtrak automatically installs as a usb mouse/hid in windows, no outside driver needed (and seemingly, no real os requirement? I'd have to imagine it could work on a mac.)
Ideally, you could plug it in over usb and it should show up as a generic usb mouse. The only thing you'd potentially lose out on for the pi is the aimtrak utility for adjusting things such as button assignments, ir gain, and recoil, but I think those settings get saved to the gun's memory internally. You could change them to your liking on your computer and then hook it up to the pi.
Granted I have not tried this but that's my thinking. If generic mouse drivers are robust for the pi it might be worth a shot! The topgun however does require a specialty device driver so slim to no chance of that working out.

Just a bump on this, also to see if there is anyone who has tried this? I don't have the Aimtrak but I am looking for a project to use a Pi with. Thinking like a Pi, 2 Aimtraks in a pelican case, a protable shooting game setup
Thoughts??
Cheers,

If you already have a pi, maybe a valuable test to do would be plugging two usb mice into it and seeing if they can pick up as separate player 1 and player 2 crosshairs in mame for pi. If that works then your chances of aimtraks working out should be good. Aimtraks basically show up as 2 rawinput mice so the determining factor for me would be checking if pi mame can do multiple mice well.

Yes the Aimtrak will be detected as a mouse on raspbian. So it's down to what ever software you're using to emulate to support the mouse input. I've got many light gun games working (operation wolf/thunderbolt, terminator 2, zero point etc) running under advance mame that comes with the latest retropie dist.

Top Guns did not work on the Pi. (Thank God) The whole idea of powering it would eventually cause a fire.
It worked great on CoinOPS though!!! >:D
