My old hdd I put together years ago had an old mame setup I did years back before these hlsl shaders.
I decided to compile a new hyperspin drive and sofar have mame .167 and several other systems all setup and running good.
By default there is a hlsl setting on mame and all my systems and it really blows my old setup out of the water but now have some questions.
Im running mameuifx through hyperspin/rocketlaunch.
Anyone know how to test out different hlsl/glsl shader settings?
Is it done in rocketlauncher or in mames ini or config files only?
Also....somehow on my old drive I have mame running full 16:9 which has grown on me but cannot figure out how to set this on my new setup.
Any help is appreciated!

Shader settings have nothing to do with the front end - it's all in MAME. Launch a game and hit Tab->Slider Controls. All the shader settings can be altered here but aren't saved when you exit the game. To keep settings, create an ini for the game and set them there. You can also change the settings in mame.ini to affect all games. Set 'aspect 16:9' in mame.ini for widescreen. You may also have to set 'resolution 1920x1080' - I can't remember as I don't use widescreen.

I thought you had to globally set the mame shader options in RL as well?

I'm not familiar with RL but can't see why a frontend would need this.
