I was hoping someone could explain what is wrong with the picture on my monitor. I have attached a photo.
Thanks
-
It's called "flagging". Recap.
edit.. sorry, "curling". i was tired. see next post regarding 50/60 pot
-
Alright thank you.
-
As far as i know, flagging is more a left side distortion that can be caused by an out of spec filter capacitor. All your pic side would move like a flag. The issue you have is more like a "foldover", another issue due to oos capacitors :)
-
i would say that needs a quick tweek of the horizontal hold pot, what monitor is this?
-
I looked but didn't find a model make etc. It's the original monitor in my mortal kombat 2 cabinet. I have a beat up mk4 machine with a great looking NEOTEC 2515C I can swap out.
Would the original capped be better or is a repaired monitor buying time before it dies type of repair? I prefer old school monitors with arcade VGA setup. It'd be nice to have a spare and possibly buy a makvision tri mode for down the road while I still can. Either as backup or for another project. I can't stand LCD.

I found the model number, must have been blind.
The faulty monitor is a Wells Gardiner 25K7197 60Kz

some of those older 7000's had a 50/60hz pot on the edge of the board. sometimes giving it a bit of a tweak would smarten up a wierd pic.
still, recap it... it's close to 30 years old now. caps are going to be all over the place from the value they are supposed to be.
-
When you say tweak, what do I do?
-
just find the potentiometer, insert a small screwdriver in it and give it an adjustment nudge backwards or forwards and see if it strainghtens out.
some games like mortal kombat run at like 53 frames. so the monitor refresh needed to be adjustable. sometimes this adjustment gets a little out of wack from age and needs to be tweaked to get back in spec.
-
That fixed it mostly, it's still screwed a bit at the top though.
-
Follow grantspain suggestion first, then recap if it doesn't fix ;)

Shrink the image just a tad (vertical size) and see if that helps any more.

the 50/60khz pot is next to adjust like someone mentioned
also i have a sneaky feeling that you have a multigame in that cab, some of those boards do not like certain monitors
-
Just running mame. I setup this rig like fifteen years ago and it's running v0.65. Those multi games are new to me =)
