Title: Pixel Vision - Kickstarter
Post by: vwalbridge on November 13, 2015, 12:32:53 pm
Not something I'd buy fund, but I will certainly admire it. Pixel Vision - Kickstarter (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1836573872/pixel-vision-the-handmade-portable-game-system)

(Bonus: It runs RetroArch for the front end. :)  )

EDIT: He even got the A and B buttons angled the right direction. And the only thing that doesn't seem to fit is that exposed cable going to the screen.

He has a steep goal of getting $46,112 pledged. But he already has over $5000 backing it. If he keeps a solid pace, he might actually make it with 29 days to go.

Oh, and if you were wondering what it would look like next to a rotten banana...

I'm sure most of those were his friends.

With that access to tools I see why his builds looks that good. All I have is a router and a jigsaw.

I can truly appreciate the woodworking involved.... without some fancy jigs (which he might actually have) those corners and that hinge would be hard to do well.

That said the poor design kind of negates all the hard work put into it.  The plastic looks like something crafted from a radioshack project box, there are bare wires connecting with the monitor and with so few wires it'd have to be a crappy composite connection. Those raised screws that are there for no apparent reason (the monitor bezel doesn't have any screws) are kind of off-putting.  Also even the Gameboy rounded the corners off so it wouldn't kill your hand.

Just an honest opinion... feel free to disagree.

Those 3 black circles are actually admin buttons I believe.

I'd take one as a gift but not actually play it.

( and why an Rpi model A+ ?? )

It's the only model that would fit in that form factor.

There's what a 3/4" size difference between the A+ and the model 2 - to go from 256MB ram to 1GB. and increase from a single to quad core faster CPU - I'd think it would be worth resizing the plans to fit the newer model esp since he is trying to get $460 for the thing !

I think for 460 it should have a micro pc in it instead of a crappy pi.... you know, so you might be able to actually use the thing.  ;)
