Title: Having troubles setting up MS precision steering wheel
Post by: menace on October 28, 2015, 01:43:03 pm
I know--its an older setup but its whats available and I have two matching pedal sets.  So I'm trying to set these up in mame.139 and as some of you know, the pedals use a dual axis setup.  Gas is half of the y-axis (Y+) and brake all of the z-axis (in a reverse setup--it starts full on and as brake is applied Z goes to 0).

I tried setting up mame to take them as is.  Unfortunatley the gas is always 50% on, since I can't get mame to recognize just the Y+ as the default setting in the analog settings--it defaults to y-axis ( the whole thing - and +)

I tried the youtube hardware hack to put them all on one axis but the driver wouldn't recognize them...

Any thoughts?

Have you tried holding the pedals down before clicking to map them in MAME and then letting them up when it's time to map them?

It's been a long time, but I seem to remember going through this process or immediately having to remap the pedal again to get the + or - designation.
(map it and it shows the axis, immediately click to remap it again and the second time it would show the + or - .....IIRC, which I might not)

You can't set them up globally.  Every game in MAME has its quirks and needs set up individually.
Remember to calibrate them in the service menu of the game if the option is there.
Also keep in mind that you have the option in MAME to invert the axis.  Some games require this, others don't.

Well i'll be!  That did the trick--by immediately remapping it gave me the option of using just Y+ and not the whole axis--a simple reverse and championship sprint responded nicely--thanks for that--it was driving me crazy (<-see what I did there... ;D)
