Title: Recommended MAME key mappings
Post by: DietCoke on October 22, 2015, 07:36:17 pm
I've been having difficulties with some non-Mame games not liking my P1 button mappings.  Can anyone recommend a good alternative mapping that has proven to be more advantageous for systems running both Mame and also PC games / Steam?  I searched the site but wasn't able to locate specifics.  I know there was a thread touching on this a month or two ago, but I can't locate it now.

Thank you.

i've had trouble finding a keyset that works with everything.  i use an ipac 4 in my cabinet and have long since abandoned the default keyset, which is crap.  i keep p1 joystick as the arrow keys, p1b1 as enter and then just try to use regular keys for everything else, no shift/alt/ stupid special keys.  for the most part this works for most things.  but there are always things that do not work.

what i ended up doing is using the winipac program to make custom keysets for the apps that don't work right, then use batch files to load the proper keyset into the ipac, launch the game, then when it exits, set it back to my default keyset.

I've currently using the config outlined here:- https://www.dropbox.com/s/ot4n0qa00ny7jlf/Recomended%20Controls-new%20version.docx?dl=0 (https://www.dropbox.com/s/ot4n0qa00ny7jlf/Recomended%20Controls-new%20version.docx?dl=0)

To date it works with pretty much everything I've setup, the only exception being a couple of PC games that won't allow re-configuration. For those I just use an AHK file to swap keys.

I replaced the first four keys with VBNM.
I didn't have any issues with other emulators after that other than having to set up the front end or autohotkey to close the program if the ESC key didn't.

Thank you.

Take a look to my AllInOneFYC program. With it you can remap keys and buttons.
Greetings.
