Title: Need help choosing best emulation software for Mame cab with arcade monitor
Post by: Overlordz on October 22, 2015, 09:04:38 am
Hi,

Need to replace a non functioning version of ArcadeOS with a similar emulation setup.

The cab currently boots straight into the ArcadeOS software from the command prompt on startup.

Cab is running an arcade monitor and the PC has a video card that connects directly to it.

I don't have alot of experience with Arcade monitors running emulation software as I have only had JAMMA cabs in the past or Mame cabs with CRT computer monitors.

Should I use Advanced Mame to achieve a suitable replacement for ArcadeOS?

If so does anyone know a good resource for learning how toconfigure Advanced Mame or any other software that would work with my current setup?

Thx in advance for any help ;D

I would use GroovyMAME. All the information you need to get it up and running is on this site, but there is also (found in the groovymame forum) a dedicated site that will take you step-by-step on getting it set up. Of course, if you want true 15khz output with it, you'll need either an ArcadeVGA card, or certain AMD cards. It's constantly updated though with new MAME releases, and the main administrator, Calamity, is SUPER helpful in getting things going.

He is all over it. Maybe skip the arcadevga part though. The regular amd card (up to 4000 series) has better support for all that is built in groovymame and the crt_emudriver.
Super happy with my cab running groovy mame. It is a old core 2 duo box with a $15 AMD 4350 i grabbed from ebay running windows 7 64 bit. Get your stuff setup with the crt_emudriver for the amd cards and you will   be ready to go.

Thx guys,

Yeah I found GroovyMAME and the Drivers to get it going last week. Was just wondering if there was anything else.

Not much of a choice it seems.

Glad to get some positive feedback on it.
