Hooking up my new (and first) JAMMA...
On some of these connections like anything associated with the coin doors, can I just cut the leads short and not use them?
I use a central button for credits so I don't really need the Coin Lockout, Lighting, and Counter.
Also, is the -5v set needed? The original layout was not hooked up to this although I do know where it is so I can hook it up if needed.
Thanks! You guys are helping to teach me a new skill set and I am hyper-excited.

I never cut the wires on anything I don't hookup. You never know.
Not eveyy game uses -5v. Don't hook it up if you don't need it..

Hi yotsuya I won't cut em too short :)
Just trying to create a nice neat wiring that is the opposite of the spaghetti nightmare from the last guy
Thanks for all your help so far. I'm sure I will come running in when its time to hook it all up although I am reading all I can to limit my threads.

I loop the unused wires and Velcro tie them close to the edge connector, mounting them near the wall. I do that oin case I change the game out and need those wires. Its come in handy before.
Let me know if I can help any other way.

If its not soldered, you could just deepen them.

Loop the unused back on itself as many times as you need to and cable tie them neat. It's the one that you cut that you will need 3s after you cut it short.

Ain't that the truth.
I think -5v is only used by much older game PCBs. They used RAM chips that needed -5v, or something. I've never needed it myself, but always have it available in case I ever do.

-5v is used on some Midway sound boards. (Smash TV is one of them).
-
Yep, -5V drives the sound on a lot of games. Hook that up if you're planning on using original boards. I'm still salty over the dude that gave me neutral feedback on e-bay because he didn't wire up my Bad Dudes board correctly.

Just hook up your -5 now instead of causing yourself of someone else a headache in the future.

Plus, the cheaper JAMMA connectors sold nowadays do not have -5v wiring built in. So you can save some grief in the future by keeping it intact. If you cut it and then decide later that you need it you'll have to search for one with -5v.

I stay away from those unless I'm going to hack it up for the input wires. If they're too cheap to add a single -5v wire, odds are they aren't using quality, proper guage wire for the power wires.
DeL is right, shop carefully.

I picked up a Rastan board for cheap on eBay because "sound didn't work"
Came in the mail, made sure I had -5V hooked up, sound worked great.
