Title: LEDWiz Getting Really HOT // Shorting PC
Post by: newoski on October 21, 2015, 04:40:18 pm
I'm completely stumped. I read so many threads before ordering my LEDWiz and ElectricIce2 buttons and felt pretty confident wiring it up, but I'm having serious issues with the LEDWiz units overheating or shorting my computer the second I turn it on.

I have 21 buttons and 2 LEDWiz, but I've only tested with 1 button and 1 LEDWiz so far. Here's how I had it wired when it (and all the wires) got really hot, really fast last night:

LEDWiz -> USB -> Computer
Power Supply -> MOLEX Red 5v Wire -> 5 amp in line fuse - > terminal block -> 5v button wire
Power Supply -> MOLEX Black Ground Wire -> LEDWiz GND
Button R,G,B Wires -> LEDWiz 1,2,3 ports

This morning, I tried jumpering a 5v line from the terminal block to the Bank Voltage (and jumpered each individual bank). That resulted in the PC shorting the moment I turned it on. It failed to turn on until I disconnected the USB and removed the MOLEX chain that has the 5v connection on it.

What am I missing? So bummed. I thought I had done my research...

Any help would be monumentally appreciated!

Please read and reply, with the requested additional information, to my email regarding your issue.  All units are thoroughly tested prior to being shipped, so you seem to have a serious wiring issue for this to be happening.

Something is definitely not correct.
