Title: Any interest in NFS Underground server & internet multiplayer
Post by: boostinallovryou on October 20, 2015, 12:29:28 pm
Hello,

I just picked up a NFS Underground and I am merging it into my Sega F355 Challenge Deluxe cab.  I wanted to test the waters and see if anybody else had a NFS game and was interested in resurrecting the tournament mode and server connectivity?  Also I'm not sure if this is possible but it would be great to setup a VPN where all the machines could connect over the internet and race each other.  Not sure the bandwidth requirements to accomplish this but I am always willing to try.

I am not new to the old Global VR servers.  I successfully got the PGA Tour machines to connect to my server.  I am still working on that and you can read more about it here:

I don't have a ton of time to dedicate to the PGA and NFS projects so the development might not be fast but I at least wanted to reach out and see if other machine owners had any interest in this.  Look forward to hearing from you all.

Everyone with a NFS must have converted it to run emulators.   ;D

I guess so.  Anybody have NFS hardware they want to part with?

Do the emulators have multiplayer capability?

No, but it ran on a pc so doesn't really need emulated, just hacked.  I'm not aware of that being done yet.

Model 2 emulator can be networked over lan.  Look for sailorsat's threads for her performance tweaks.

Sailorsat also did a version of mame called cabmame that supported networking for virtua racing and a few others.  I think this might have been incorporated into the official mame build, but I haven't kept up.

I don't mind working on NFS tournament if people are interested.  I just didn't want to do a ton of work and have nobody want it.  The server is the same as PGA so I should have a healthy headstart on this project.  I'll keep people updated on this.
