Good news! I got the encoder board and got player 1 wired up. Moon Patrol is so much more fun with the actual controls! Going to play more later.
Bad news: Some of the wires in the included harness are too short to reach the other side of the CP for Player 2. From what I can tell these are single-strand wires, and I could theoretically get some wire of the same gauge and my soldering iron, solder patches in the middle and cover them with heatshrink. Wires are already set up with the right connections for the encoder, I just need more LENGTH!
Thoughts?

As long as the connections and soldering are good I think you can do exactly that. There's also crimp lugs available.

why not just go buy some wire and make your own harness?
-
@harveybirdman because I don't have access to and don't want to buy a crimp tool for just this one project. The encoder board has pins on it already so I want to use the pin connectors on that end as well.
@johnrt cool! I was gonna just get some of the same stuff I use when I'm wiring up LEDs and panels in costumes, I think it's called heatshrink but those might be better ....

HATE those crimp lugs. Soldered connections with shrink wrap, baby! More reliable and much better looking.

Wont buy a crimp tool?... What?... Did I really just hear that? :dizzy:

Yeah, you did. This isn't something I do often, and I hate unitaskers :)

Well lucky you then, Because that's not your best option (as far as awesomeness) in this thread. I vote for the "make a new harness" approach.
