Man...I remember NOTHING about this game except that it had a little thing in the middle of the screen that looked like R2D2 from Star Wars. It wasn't a Star Wars game, it just looked like that.
I don't really remember anything else about the game...except that I liked playing it for like the week we stayed at that hotel when I was probably 7. That would be 21 years ago. I'm surprised I remember anything...
Anyone have any idea? there might have been elevators around in it...
Allroy ???

No idea....... did you search through every snapshot of Mame supported games yet? Might take a while to go through all of them, but you might get lucky..

Star Castle ? http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=S&game_id=9754
I was graduating high school about that time so should know that era.
Anything else about it - Vector or raster, controls types, looking down on R2D2, or sideways????
Thanks!

Phoenix?

na, it wasn't vector, that's for sure.
and it wasn't a space game per say. Not like Phoenix or Galaxian or anything like that..... It was more like...something where you had to run around a level or a building. The monitor was vertical mount. uh....man I wish I could remember more....the R2D2 might have been a trash can with legs, but it was right in the middle of the screen. I'll go to KLOV.com and just refresh until it comes up as the game of the second. :)

Used a joystick?
There's Elevator Action or Rolling Thunder, but not vertical, and no R2D2 or legged trash can?
-
It sounds like DROL, an old computer game by Broderbund. Could it be that your memories are mixed a bit? (Mine do that to me sometimes). Here is a screenie:
-
Drol was kind of fun. i remeber first playing it on someones Apple IIe.
As for the Mystery Game
Try Hopper Robo (http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=&game_id=8137)

Cloak and Dagger?
-
now that everyone is giving me all these ideas of these colorful games, it occurs to me that it wasn't NEARLY that colorful ...if it was color at all. The R2D2 figure in the middle was white. All white if I remember correctly....
I'm pathetic.. ???
-
What did you do in the game? Just run around the big trash can the whole time? Shooting things?
-
"Time Limit" fits the bill (colors are wrong in the screenshot, but you get the idea):

I have no idea!!! Man, I wish I couldn't remember anything of it! Then I wouldn't be bugging you guys with it.
Sorry.... :-[

Isn't a problem. I like the "name the game" competitions. Fun.

space zap maybe? not much of an r2 d2, but it does have a box always located in the middle and doesn't have many colors going on.
klov- space zap (http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=S&game_id=9692)

So where is the R2D2 in that picture?

So do I. Sorry, I don't have a clue what this game might be, but I've been following the investigation with interest.

The elevator is sort of R2D2-like.

Could it have been I, Robot? The character in that game sort of looks like R2D2...
-
Here is the KLOV link for I, Robot (http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=I&game_id=8172)
The robot is mostly white, and he does have something of an R2D2 look.
-
I loved I,robot when it first came out. I remember about 10 of those washing up on shore at the local beach when I was a kid....
only kidding! (if you know the back story you'll 'get it') ;)

i have no idea what it could be as a lot of what i thought it could be has already been said. but im interested in finding out what game this is! man and looking back on these old games, im glad i was born a little later then most people on here. i just cant see having fun with those horrible graphics =P i remember when i was really really young the first game i played was in a caesers casino arcade, my grandpa took me there while my parents were gambling, and i played rampage! i needed to stand on a crate to play......... but anyway thats my era these weird polygonal and B&W games make me shudder

Hehe, i respect that. The "classics" may look "ugly". But they were still fun and very addiciting (at the time at least). I must've spent a few hundred dollars on galaga, robotron, tempest, and moon patrol (in Reno when my parents go gambling ;D, seriously!).
-
But Seph you have fallen for that graphics weakness.
The merit of a game is playability not graphics.
Pacman, I still love it, what is that 16 colors, Galaga great, Joust oh my goodness, Donkey Kong one of my all time favorites, and others oh my.
Heck I still like playing Asteroids and it is black and white.
-
well dont get me wrong i still play older games like pacman & joust. but atari kind of games with boxes and triangles are just a little too horrible looking for me. 8 bit NES type stuff is about where i start

I gotta agree. Although I still love to play 'Yars Revenge' for the 2600.
-
I still believe that Yar's Revenge is the best arcade game that was never in the arcade.
-
My thread has Derailed. :)
it had Intrepid Type Details from what I remember
http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=8197 (http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=8197)
it had graphics of about that calibur and it was maybe a maze game or maybe an elevator. Like I said I have no idea. I'm gonna go through all my roms this weekend and play all of them until I find it. >:(

check out Route16 on KLOV
-
geez...
I'm ready to say it was this game:
http://klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=&game_id=7894
Galaxy Rescue
or it looks like there was a clone called Destination Earth.
It doesn't look like what I remember..but at least the main charachter thing looks like R2D2.
I swear it just sat in the middle...like a pac Man Ghost box..but it was R2D2
i'm tired of worrying about it though... :)

Hard Hat?
http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=H&game_id=8075
The screenshots there look different than the one in Mame, the guy white with a big hat..kinda looks like R2D2
-
maybe it was a dream :o
-
either that or i'm crazy....both are very possible....
-
Actually, you may just be remembering it wrong. I took a physiology class last summer. The teacher talked about that. You often can "remember" things, and have them completely different then they actually were. It is the reason that you can have 2 eye witnesses have totally different accounts of what happened. Neither is lying, they just have a different memory.

I have a similar memory of that game. I played it like mad at an all-weekend-long bowling tournament that my dad dragged me to when I was a kid. The version I played was called Lunar Rescue - I fire it up once in a while on my cab...I love MAME.
