I've just set up a new Windows 7 PC for use in my cab, after finally making the move to x64 GroovyMAME. While trying to get the CRT Emudrivers installed I've realised that my X1650 isn't supported under Win 7. So that leaves me needing a new card (or try Win XP x64 which I might have a look at). Is there any benefit to getting the 2 gig model over the 1 gig HD 4890 when using it for GM? Also, am I correct in thinking this is the highest powered card in the HD 4xxx range which is supported by GM?
Many thanks.
Jon.

The X1650 will work fine in win7 you just need a bit older driver version since they stopped support in the newest versions - go to AMD site and select manual download (shown in first attachment) - put in the info (not sure if you are on 32 bit or 64 bit so enter whichever you are using) and click display results and it will take you to the latest supported version (which according to the next attachment is 10.2 - then download nad install that version and your GPU should work fine !!)

The card works fine as an actual video card, it's the CRT Emudrivers which (I think) aren't supported and they're a pre-requisite for a GM setup aren't they?

If you want correct modeline support yes.
And yes currently the HD4890 is the fastest supported card atm, but it is over powered for mame, and will put too much heat into the cabinet (assuming you are mounting it in there.
aim for something lower like a HD4850 or HD4870 max. Amount of ram doesn't really matter for this.

Thanks for the info, Sledge. I've installed XP x64 so going to give that a try before going for a new card.

For the 4890 you will also need a 500w power supply.
