Hey guys,
anyone know which EMU to use to play American Laser Games? Daphne? MAME? Neo Geo?
Thanks

Singe. It's an offshoot of Daphne. Google it, and you should be fine.

No problem. I have the full range of gun games set up, so let me know if you need help.

Well I have my MAME gun games all squared away and same for Model 2 and I actually got Trouble Shooter 2 set up which works AMAZING!
Aside from American Laser games what I am missing? (I'm using Aimtrak guns) Which reminds me....did you install the recoil kit? I'm a little intimated by it....but what are your thoughts? Worth the trouble?
Thanks for any insight.
I know you are a great contributor on this site, I've read many of your posts during my cab building adventure.

I really like Daphne. Have not tried Singe.

They are the same thing. Singe is just daphne using scripts instead of roms. So the game logic is being faked, but it runs on the same engine.

Thanks for the kind words. The setup works fine for me in testing. I haven't built my gun cab yet because of space. My setup was going to be simple, so no recoil install.
I also got the ActionMax gun games set up and some House of the Dead PC games, but those were pretty iffy in regards to video drivers.

Ok just starting to get this going....I can't find the Action Max emu anywhere. I found Singe but no Action Max! Can anyone help me out?

I think Singe runs ActionMax as well. I can check my setup when I get home.

The ActionMax games run through Singe.
I found this thread here, which might help. http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,131334.0.html (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,131334.0.html)

I wouldn't bother though. Because they aren't interactive they kind of suck.

They're fun enough from a curiosity standpoint. It wouldn't kill your cab not to have them, but if you can get them running, they're not going to hurt anything.
-
You're scraping the bottom of the barrel when you're emulating VHS video tapes playing.
See Howard's upcoming Captain Power emulator Kickstarter....
(that is a joke. I repeat; that is a joke.)

I agree. I know that Singe is an add-on to Daphne but what is Action Max? Is it another add on that I would require? And thanks for the link by the way...I've been searching the threads lately non stop.

Hm... trying to get the picture here... Daphne is for ROMs/CHD's and Singe is for the CD/DVD/LD - right?
-
Daphne doesn't use chd's... it uses it's own proprietary video format (it's much smaller... don't have a clue why mame doesn't use them). Singe uses the exact same video format, only with scripting instead of roms because the roms for those games aren't yet emulated. It doesn't have anything to do with CDs/DVDs, ect.

Daphne is for arcade games that originally used laserdiscs.
Some of these aren't emulated in MAME.
Singe is an offshoot of Daphne that is for the light gun games that originally used laserdiscs.
The authors of Singe also made a version that can play the holographic game Time Traveler by Sega.
All three of those utilize video from the PC or DVD version of the games released by Digital Leisure.
As part of the setup process, the video is ripped from your disc. (unless of course you acquire the entire package already set up elsewhere)
Stay away from the very old pre-windows XP versions of the games, as they were originally very low resolution.
Time Traveler requires a very specific version to work. (whichever one I bought is wrong and I never got it working)
The authors of Singe also created a separate emulator for ActionMax games which originally used VHS tapes.
I have not messed with it and have no idea how it works.

I got the right version of Time Traveler, then!
The ActionMax games have an on-screen scoreboard that tabulates the hits. Again, they're fun from a curiosity standpoint, but nobody's going to be asking you to play them. I set them up because I wanted the experience when working on my gun cab. this stuff was easy. It was getting the PC versions of House of the Dead to work right that was the challenge .

MAME uses the raw dump. Aaron has the main reason on his site. Nobody has the balls to go head to head with DLLC yet. The MAME team are still years behind anyway. We just have simulators like Daphne.
-
OK, thanks for the clarifications.
-
Are any of the American Laser Gun Games 2 players?
-
Some of them might be 2 player alternating, but that's about it. Laserdiscs aren't designed to have two hits register at once.
Also I'm not sure what happened to my post from a couple of weeks ago... just to clarify, Daphne isn't a simulator, it's a proper emulator. Singe is the simulator.
