Help. I am building my arcade machine and I have Hyperspin running with MAME, Daphne , an American Laser Games. I have all the artwork and things are running pretty smoothly. I just purchased an Ultrastik 360 from Ultimarc. I also bought an IPAC 2. I have been reading and reading and reading , and I just don't know what to do next. I plan on Buying LED buttons and a LED WIZ . I have no buttons at the moment, all I have is the Joystick. When I plug it into the computer directly it does not control Hyperspin but it seems to work with MAME. What is the best option for running Hyperspin with the few Emulators that I have ? I currently have Hypermap and LEDBlinky on my machine but I just don't understand how it all works. I don't understand what analog mode means.
Do I have to map every game in MAME manually or does this happen automatically?
Do I need to use the IPAC for Up , Down, Left, and Right , to control Hyperpsin and connect the Ultrastik to the computer via usb to control in MAME?
How will it work for Daphne?
Thanks in advance I am lost .

If you have a U360, you didn't need the IPac. The U360 has its own interface and has inputs for, I believe, 8 buttons. So you wire the buttons into the stick then connect the stick to your comp. You then just need to tell Hyperspin to use whatever inputs the U360 outputs. I've not owned one so not sure how it outputs, sorry.

The U360 Joystick does't play nice with Hyperspin.
Hyperspin interprets a single movement from the U360 (such as UP) as you just holding the joystick down. Therefor, you have probably noticed the Hyperspin wheel never stops moving when all you wanted to do was move the game selection one spot.
BUT, here is the good news
To get around this, you can use Xpadder (http://www.xpadder.com/) to translate the U360's movements to common keyboard inputs. I did exactly this on my Mini DK and it works perfectly.

+1 Since you have a U360, you don't need the ipac.

No, you just map MAME's main inputs one time and those translate properly to all games. However, you might need to go into some games and tweak the button mappings to your preference.
(I did this to accommodate Tutankham on a 2-button control panel.)

Also, the latest iteration of Hyperspin now supports joysticks (HID device) as I've learned from these good people here. The older versions do not. What version of Hyperspin are you running?

I have two U360s I'm planning to use on my build and am trying to make the same decision to add an ipac or not.
Besides Hyperspin, which I plan on running, are there any emulators that don't play well with game pads?

Well, just to be pedantic... Hyperspin isn't an emulator at all.
But as far as emulators go, I've not run into any that won't use a gamepad. Even if you DID run into one, there are solutions. XPadder, JoyToKey, AutoHotKey. I'm sure there are more, but that's what comes to mind off the top of my head.

I use my U360 connected to an iPAC2 and this works great. All emulators and Hyperspin work great controlled by a keyboard and you only use the U360 mapping. If you use an analog joystick MAME adds its own mapping table too which might mess up with the U360 mappings (you can disable MAME joystick mapping!).

I may end up doing this with an Ultimate I/O if I decide to go with RGB buttons. When I factor in the cost of the led controller plus the cost of a trackball encoder its not much more to go ahead and buy the Ultimate I/O.
