Title: Please Tell Me I am Not the Only One with an "Emergency Repair" Arcade Toolbox!
Post by: lisowskikevin on September 04, 2015, 05:01:04 pm
Hey guys,

Just need some support to prove that I am not as crazy as my wife thinks I am.

After completing my first arcade build I have stocked a toolbox with extra microswitches, pushbuttons, wires, crimpers, connectors, zip ties, electrical tape, voltage tester, multimeter, forstner bit etc.

Anyone else have a tool box of arcade goodies like mine...... "just for in case"? If so, what do you stock it with?

Kevin

And how!
A lot of us have more spare parts than actual "in use" parts.

I have this, where else are you keeping your multi-meter, pushbutton nut wrench, soldering irons, tweezers, disconnects, capacitors, and such...

Hell yeah, bro.... zip ties, 1/2 black powdercoated lath screws from Bob Roberts,  microswitches, tons of wire fragments, molex connectors, JAMMA pins... you name it.

I have something more along the lines of "things to use when I finally get of my dead ass."  Reminds me I should move the multimeter to that kit.

On an equally serious note.  I have my T2 guns, arcade wheel with FFB in one tote.  My nintendo and other guns in a different tote.  My star wars yoke gets its own tote.  All my buttons for the illumination project are in smaller tote.

My toolbox is more like a 2 drawer legal filing cabinet, several boxes and about a dozen of those clear plastic "fishing lure" boxes full of brass screws, washers, insert nuts, hinges, copper pipe and fittings, foam, burgundy taffeta, wooden scrollwork, old bakelight radio knobs, flight sticks, brass clock mechanisms, gears, chains, wire and vacuum tubes  ;D

One day, I'll finish this build

Besides a regular toolbox with my tools, here's my parts drawer. Click on the photo to see the categories.

i have one of those small plastic stack of drawers. 3 drawers that has most of my go to arcade tools. Pushbuttons and microswitches for sure. I keep one drawer with all my wiring stuff, crimps, disconnects, wiring holders etc. One became the "junk"drawer with tons of screws brackets and tons of misc useable stuff. Generally when Im working on a specific project i keep that drawer stack, and one tool bag with the tools im using. I use my friends garage as a workshop so im always coming and going and dont want to waste work time gathering tools and realizing i forgot one thing i need. Its kind of funny how many people are intruiged by my arcade box. Most people have never seen the inside of an arcade and are generally amazed by all the "clicky things and joystick button things"
