Title: My mini arcade cabinet made out of IKEA tables
Post by: TheBigBadWolf on August 31, 2015, 06:34:55 pm
Hi All,

Just wanted to show off the mini cabinet I built using IKEA Lack tables, it only plays asteroids and space fury at the moment, just need to get some screw covers to finish it off.

Took a weekend to build, I was initially worried the IKEA wood wouldnt be good to cut and drill but it turned out ok.

Cheers,

TheBigBadWolf

Yeah, laminated wood is easy to cut and keep decent. Hey, if it's good enough for you... :)

Do you sit Indian style in front of it to play?

IIRC the LACK tables are way too light even for that. I think the thin shelf that sits under the table is heavier than the table top itself. I believe it's actually a corrugated-like cardboard that fills the bulk and very thin sheets of a particleboard-like substance with a veneer. The edges might have something reasonably solid holding the metal inserts but I doubt it.  I ---smurfing--- hate it because even the tiniest little scratch on the veneer quickly bubbles with the smallest amount of moisture from any source.

The construction makes for a reasonably strong table but when you finally toss it in the fire, you won't get too many BTUs out of it.

Cool, reminds me of this strange german cab

It needs a marquee though.

I don't see a joystick. What does it play?

There's a joystick with a black balltop on the left.

He is asking about the Ikea machine in the first post. It doesn't have a joystick.

Yes, I was asking about the Ikea machine. Just buttons. What games can you play with that setup?

Found an old topic here in the forum : Arcade games that only use buttons(no joystick)? (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=58624)

I think that's an Asteroids layout.

Were the two games mentioned in the first post not of sufficient information?

What Slippy said  :applaud:

I missed those two games. It's a nice looking cab, though.
