Post by: kiel0909 on August 30, 2015, 07:16:28 pm
is there a benefit to using bare speakers with an amp vs just using some computer speakers?  im guessing ill get a better sound out of 4" drivers and an amp than desktop speakers at around the same cost?  but perhaps im missing something?

With bare speakers, you'll have an easier time mounting them. With computer speakers, in my opinion, it's just sloppy. You'll have to strap them down, or hide them out of the way. On my son's cabinet, I used some 6.5" Sony X-plod's and powered them with this amp:

The sound is INTENSE to say the least. Having that separate bass and treble control is nice too. Helps me tweak that sound till it's just right. And something else to think of... if you go with either bare or PC speakers, get one of these:

It will power down those speakers/lights/etc when you power down your cabinet...very handy investment to make either way.
