Title: The Bullseyebore
Post by: vwalbridge on August 20, 2015, 01:31:17 pm
I can't tell if this is one of the coolest drill accessories ever made, or just another gadget trying to fix a problem that really doesn't exist. http://www.bullseyebore.com/ (http://www.bullseyebore.com/)

 - It can help you align for straight drilling
 - It can help you guadge drill depth
 - It works with any drill
 - It works in any orientation

It's not available yet but for the right price, it could be worth it.

I lean towards the latter...it fixes a problem that doesn't really exist IMO.  Cool if meh on usefulness though.

I'd buy one if cheap enough.

That's exactly what I was thinking. It HAS to be cheap...in order to fix a "cheap" problem.  There are some rare occasions where you can't use a drill press and drilling a very straight hole is necessary. Having this handy tool could give you added guidance.

If I'm playing the Price is Right game...I'd say $14.99 tops.

I'd max out at $10.

Costs less than $3.49 in raw materials.  You are giving it away if you charge less than $9.99

That's actually pretty cool.

Personally, I don't yet own a drill press.  90% of the time, I can get away with slightly less than perfect drill holes, but that other 10% of the time, I find myself longing for a press.  Something like this would be far cheaper.

Of course, it is only an aiming system.  You still need a steady hand.

Just because you can line it up before you drill doesn't mean you can keep it that way when you start drilling. I'd rather pick up something like this for those times I need a drill press:

It actually would be very useful when drilling through something thicker and you need to make sure you're going through straight.

I have a set of these Drill guides http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0061FY004/ref=s9_dcbhz_bw_d0_g469_i1_sh (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0061FY004/ref=s9_dcbhz_bw_d0_g469_i1_sh) and the Tap guides also. I honestly thought I would use them once and in the cabinet they would go never to be seen again but I have used them quite a bit. I also have a floor standing drill press, but these still get used when the press would be a PITA or I dont want to bring the project to the garage. I use the tap guides a lot also. Being able to use them on round stock and corners is a big bonus.

I would pick one up for 10 bucks or so. I think the assistance with drilling depth would be worth the purchase.
