For me, Geometry Wars in the garage of Project Gotham Racing 2 on XBOX.
Honorable mention to Maniac Mansion being hidden inside its own sequel of Day of the Tentacle and double honorable mention to Pong being hidden in MKII that was hidden in Shaolin Monks.

Texas Hold 'em and Liar's Dice in Red Dead Redemption
-
"Ox" and "Bugaboo" in Anachronox.
-
Banjo-Kazooie, Grunty's Furnace Fun.
It was a complete surprise that there would be a game show at the end of that game. I remember the first time my friends and I made it there we had a blast, and it was a real challenge to answer the questions correctly.

I liked playing that card game in Final Fantasy 9.
If you are talking about known games that also exist outside of the game, then I played the crap out of Jetpac that is inside Donkey Kong 64. Actually the original DK was also in there, but not really my favorite

no rules for "game in a game" BlitzBall in FFX counts as much as Space Harrier in Shenmue. I was TERRIBLE at Tetra Master in FF9 :(
-
I liked the original Ninja Gaiden inside Ninja Gaiden on Xbox. Was a ---smurfette--- getting it though, almost impossible on a single playthrough.
-
I think it was called "butt fighters" on an arcade in the beavis and butthead game.

Chocobo Breeding and Racing in FFVII

I liked playing that card game in Final Fantasy 9.
I like Triple Triad in Final Fantasy VIII better (better than the game itself).
It's now free through the Final Fantasy Portal App.
-
Not my favorite in game game but I always tried to get extra lives on the Bonus Chance wheel on Super Mario Bros 2 on the NES.
-
Strip liar's dice in leisure suit larry 7.... classic

Actually you are right, I just got them confused. I liked the version in FF8 a lot more than FF9. The FF9 card game had too much chance involved.

Astro Chicken in Space Quest III
Good times with that one.
-
Fishing in Zelda - Link's Awakening on Gameboy. Oldie but a goodie.
-
Probably the Galaga loading screens in Ridge Racer.
-
i was impressed with the arcade version of starblade by namco which was included (hidden i think) in the game tekken 5 for the playstation 2

Old Wolfenstein in all the new Wolfensteins.
-
Tekken bowling from Tekken tag on ps2. Played the bowling much more than the actual game.
-
Old Wolfenstein in all the new Wolfensteins.
I considered mentioning this. I had fun playing the old style with the newer controls.
-
Gradius in Blades of Steel. Also that handheld game in Super Mario RPG is dope. Or playing Pac-Man at the arcade in Pac-Man 2 (which is one of my guilty pleasures).

How about playing the Galaga attract screen for free? ;)

I could swear I was playing virtual skeeball.

Edit: Someone needs to build one of these cabs.

Pretty sure Rick still has it on his list of things to (re-)do.
Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to bid you all adieu. Sadly, it is time for me to part with this project. Yes, I am disassembling my 'manually assembled' Super Turbo Turkey Puncher arcade cabinet that has been moving from room to room for the past few years. And no, this project is NOT dead. I'm planning on resurrecting this as one of my FIRST THINGS, when I have my workshop built, and when my CNC is up and running. So, yes, this project will live on. Just not in it's current incarnation.
I've looked over the work I've done, and it's ... ok. The router lines aren't straight. The assembly isn't perfect. I've learned a lot, and I think that this is where I'm at. I know I can do better, and I'm going to "do right" by this machine... So it's not a farewell to arms. It's a ... soon to be "perfect". (Or, at least, 'better'.)
I do have a plan - and that involves a new, updated version via Solidworks, and CNC created parts to get everything "up to snuff"... So, watch for updates in the coming months. I promise this - the project is not dead. It's just ... resting.
:D

Donkey Kong arcade in Donkey Kong 64.

Mario Bros inside of Super Mario Bros 3

Texas Hold 'em and Liar's Dice in Red Dead Redemption
^ this +100!!
Liar's Dice is awesome (IRL too!), and nothing beats playing some Texas Holdem on the patio of a Mexican Cantina. ;)
-
Tekken bowling from Tekken tag on ps2. Played the bowling much more than the actual game.
I was thinking of this too actually. Definitely played more bowling once I found it.
-
Favorite "Game in a Game" game?
Making often short-lived alliances in 4 player Warlords and then turning on each other.
-

Actually, just about anything beats playing Texas Holdem. I shudder at the contemplation of Mexican cantinas in Canada.
-
You would shudder anyway at the cold weather up here... southerner. WINTER IS COMING.

Or playing Pac-Man at the arcade in Pac-Man 2 (which is one of my guilty pleasures).

You guys aren't talking about the same thing. Ginsu is talking about the arcade game Galaga/ Ms Pac-Man Reunion arcade cabinet where you can unlock Pac-Man and play Galaga without credits on the attract mode.
Bruce, however, is talking about the adventure game for SNES/ Genesis called Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures. In it is a virtual arcade where you can play the original Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man 2 (SNES)/ Jr. Pac (a Genesis original).
-
My favorite game was probably the fly swatting in Mario Paint on SNES. It was the first to come to mind as a fun minigame.

I know we weren't talking about the same thing, but I'm talking about on the original Galaga, not that reunion cab.

Same trick can be done on reunion cabs

All good. I knew about the trick on the old Galaga cabs, I didn't know it still worked on reuinion cabs. Now I wanna go play the tank game on NBA Jam.

I recall getting a kick out of being transported into a Pac Man maze in Ultima Underworld where you became a first-person pacman picking up gold pieces (I think) and were chased around by ghosts.
Maybe slightly off topic, but searching for the easter egg in the original Atari Adventure cartridge was, for a time, more fun than playing the game as intended.
-
Yep, the free play during attract mode and the "enemies don't shoot" trick both work on the Reunion cabinets.
-
The 19 NES games in Animal Crossing, the TMNT arcade games in the TMNT 2 and 3 GCN/Xbox/PS2 games, the MSX Metal Gears in MGS3 Subsistence, the arcade games in Pac-Man 2, 2600 Pitfall in The Mayan Adventure, DK arcade and Jetpac in DK64 (even on Wii U!), the games in the SNES Beavis and Butt-Head.
Is there a complete list somewhere of all hidden games, even unlockable extra games in stuff like Namco Museum and SNK Arcade Classics?

Chocobo Breeding and Racing in FFVII
+1
I also loved that there was an arcade in Goal Saucer where you could re-play all the mini games from the past story. I just got FF7 for iPhone and am doing to find a long stretch of time to dedicate to starting.
