Title: Rowe Ami R -81 selector fault
Post by: laserblue77 on August 14, 2015, 08:45:43 pm
Hi there, my Rowe R-81 "Moondrops" jukebox seems to be doing a strange thing and I am wondering if someone can give some advice. Each time I select record 146 the carousel scans to 147 and plays that record. The digital display button counter says 146 but the actual record playing is 147. And even more bizarre is that it seems to do this in winter rather than summer. I have cleaned the encoder wheel and the fault is still occurring. I also did notice a black and red wire from the memory unit to the encoder had unstuck so I just slipped it back in without soldering. Still no change in the selector fault. Can anyone help please?

Hello Shannon,

Welcome to the forum.

Check out the bottom two wipers on the Encoder for wear, it could be the pictures but that PCB does not look very clean.

Clean with a pencil rubber and then polish with a lint free cloth.

If you need any of the boards testing/repaired, please feel free to contact me.

Hello Alan,

Thankyou for the reply and your kind welcome. Greetings from Adelaide! The information you provided has been valuable and it seems your diagnosis was dead on accurate. Indeed you are the professor of jukeboxes!  So I used a better light source to view the wiper blades and the bottom two are worn by a few millimeters. When I compare these bottom two to the others they are shorter.  I have included some clearer photos. So does this mean I have to replace the two blades, the whole lot or make an adjustment to the pressure? Also is there anyone else Down Under who does jukebox repairs? I have been using Dickesons amusements over the years here in Adelaide which have been very helpful.

Many good regards,

Hello Shannon,

Those bottom two wipers still have plenty of meat on them, the boars is very dirty however.
Remove the plastic cover  and clean the PCB, with a pencil rubber, you will need to scan the mechanism around in steps to achieve this. We would remove the Encoder at possition 200 and then strip it down to clean it fully.
