I just found a pc -> dreamcast keyboard converter. I was considering buying one (in the hopes that I can get my keyboard encoder -> dreamcast working)....
but does anyone have a DC keyboard? Does it work with digital controller games? I can set any keys on the keyboard encoder...
but it would be SO much nicer then having to hack two keyboards.
TIA!

I guess you haven't been following these recent discussions in the consoles msg board:

Short answer is "No".

I am not quite sure what your project is, but if you are attempting to connect a dreamcast to arcade controls, hacking 2 normal DC controllers is really not all that bad.

The trouble is my dreamcast is going into a dedicated sitdown driving cab.
But I was REALLY hoping that I could move it over and use my standup without too much trouble. And I didn't want to rewire all of my control panels...
It was just a pipedream that I might be able to use it with spending 20 bucks without any additional wiring. There are only a few games I would want to play anyway (on the standup)... So not a big deal...
